Immigration Officer Caught Stashing RM1.5 Million of Alleged Bribe Money in Tabung Haji & ASB Accounts

To cover up his corrupt activities, an immigration officer stashed RM1.5 million allegedly solicited from graft in Tabung Haji and Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB) accounts before his actions were uncovered in a recent raid by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

According to a report by Harian Metro, MACC’s investigation found that more than RM1 million was found in Tabung Haji accounts in the names of the suspect, his wife and child, while more than RM400,000 was stored in an ASB account.

“Additionally, also seized from the suspect were jewellery estimated to be worth RM60,000 and cash totalling in RM13,900,” MACC shared.

In a separate raid, MACC also seized cash totalling in RM150,000, including RM125,000 found on the roof of a female immigration officer’s house, as well as jewellery worth approximately RM15,000.

Another raid also saw a female suspect in possession of jewellery worth an estimated RM80,000, and cash totalling in RM41,470 and THB13,300 (~RM1,758).

MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner of Operations, Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya shared that the 3 suspects are believed to be in cahoots with a counter-setting syndicate, and are believed to have accepted bribes in return for facilitating the entry of foreigners into Malaysia without following SOPs.

All 3 of the Immigration Department staff were arrested in Op Rentas, conducted simultaneously in 4 states by the MACC Intelligence Division which has so far seen 57 bank accounts worth more than RM2.7 million being frozen due to suspicion of being linked to the counter-setting syndicate.
