Anoushay Abbasi Finally Breaks Silence on Secret Divorce After Six Years
1 day ago
Anoushay Abbasi revealed that her divorce took place six years ago, but she kept it hidden from everyone to protect her mother from worry and from hearing people’s remarks. She said it took her time to recover after her mother’s passing, and now she feels ready to share it with everyone.
In a recent candid interview, actress Anoushay Abbasi publicly confirmed that she got divorced in 2019. This revelation marks the first time she has spoken about the separation and divorce publicly. The actress shared the details while appearing on the show After Hours with Ushna Shah. Abbasi noted that she has been single for six years.
When discussing why the divorce remained private for so long, Abbasi explained that she intentionally kept the separation and divorce private because her mother was critically ill. She stated that she did not want her mother to face any pressure, nor did she want her mother to have to answer questions when people visited her.
Abbasi reflected on the difficult period following her divorce, noting that she kept her private life separate while her mother was around. She also shared that her father passed away in 2012, and her mother passed away ten years later. After her mother’s death, the family faced a significant void, which led the siblings—including her, her brother Jibran, her sister Zia Baji, and her brother Shamoon—to become even more connected to support each other.
During the discussion, Abbasi also touched upon the realities of working in the entertainment industry:
Difficult Co-stars: She admitted that she has frequently worked with actors she disliked or found awkward, especially during intimate or romantic scenes. When filming a romance scene, actors sometimes know “exactly” that “this must have been so awkward to shoot” because the actors “hate each other”.
Issues After ‘Cut’: Abbasi revealed that she has encountered many male actors who do not let go immediately after a scene is cut, sometimes requiring her to ask them to please release her hand. Interestingly, she felt that this specific “problem” was more common with actors playing supporting roles (like ‘Abba’ roles) than the main heroes.
Industry Stress: Abbasi noted that the set environment can be challenging due to high stress and “tantrums” thrown by various members of the crew, not just the main cast. Some crew members throw tantrums because they are new and unsure how to behave, while others do so because they are experienced and know that certain demands are necessary to get work done.
Professional Advice: She cited actress Saba Hameed as a major professional influence. Hameed gave her valuable acting tips, encouraging her to speak lines casually and in the flow, rather than delivering them in a “sing-song” manner. Abbasi recalled crying on the last day of filming Pyare Afzal because she was so reliant on Hameed’s help.
Promising Talent: When asked about promising actors in the current generation, she named Khushal Khan as “really good”.
Abbasi is currently taking a gap from acting, but admitted she is starting to miss it after discussing her career. She also expressed a strong liking for past Pakistani dramas such as Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Meri Zaat Zarra-e-Benishan, and Humsafar.
