Bintulu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Wan Kamarudin Wan Ahmad said they were notified about the incident at around 3.25pm and firefighters from the Kidurong and Bintulu fire station were dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arrival, it was found that the fire involved 14 squatter houses, which were totally destroyed,” he added.

Wan Kamarudin said the firefighters had to use water sourced from a water tanker to extinguish the fire, as there was no fire hydrant nearby.

“The firefighters managed to bring the fire under control before fully extinguishing it,” he added.

No casualties or injuries were reported during the incident.

Bomba is still investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the estimated losses.
