Shell Recharge EV chargers are being migrated away from ParkEasy
1 day ago
If you always use Shell Recharge to charge up your EV in Malaysia, take note that the Charge Point Operator (CPO) has started to migrate its EV chargers to a different app.
In Malaysia, the Shell Recharge charging network currently uses ParkEasy to reserve and to activate the EV charger but they have started shifting the chargers to the Shell Recharge Asia app. The new app is available on both Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
According to the announcement page on Shell Malaysia’s website, the migration to the new platform has started yesterday 15th October and it looks like they are aiming to complete the move by 30th November 2025.
Existing ParkEasy users are urged to switchover to the new app and they can also apply to transfer their existing ParkEasy credits online. According to the page, the credit transfer is expected to be completed within 14 working days. Once the migration is successful, the ParkEasy account will be frozen and no further credit top-ups are possible.
The Shell Recharge Asia apps offers a better experience as users can discover nearby chargers on a map and it also offers a clear list of chargers with availability and pricing details.
Since this is a different platform, you’ll need to register as a new user on the Shell Recharge Asia app. But you must sign up using the same mobile number as your ParkEasy account if you intend to transferring your existing credits.
However, it appears that Shell Recharge can only process a limited number of credit transfers per day. When we try to transfer by entering our phone number, it says “Too many requests. Limit 3 per day”.
When it comes to payment method, Shell Recharge Asia apps allows uses to choose between topping up the Wallet or pay directly via their saved Credit and Debit Card. This makes it easier to activate a charger without the need of maintaining a minimum in-app Wallet balance.
Take note that a minimum pre-authorisation amount of RM150 will be charged to the card upon activation.
The Shell Recharge Asia app also allows uses to reserve the charger for 10 minutes and there’s a reservation fee of RM5.00 excluding taxes.
If you have an existing subscription plan such as Shell Recharge Platinum or Gold, the membership will be reflected in the Shell Recharge app within 14 working days under the Charging plans. Just make sure you register a new account in the Shell Recharge app using the same mobile number and email.
However, don’t delete your ParkEasy app just yet as the EV charger migration is still on going. At the moment, the Shell Recharge app is only showing mostly chargers in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. That means, the remaining Shell Recharge locations still require the ParkEasy app.
As shown above, the ParkEasy app will indicate if a charging location has moved to the Shell Recharge app.
A quick check reveals that most EV chargers outside of the Klang Valley especially along the PLUS highway and LPT highway are still live on ParkEasy. Even the EV Chargers at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and Genting Highlands are still not migrated yet.
