'Turn Of The Tide' Season 2 Ending Explained & Season 3 Theories
1 day ago
Turn Of The Tide season 2 ends on a morbid note to remind us that drugs will permanently change your life for the worse. In the series so far, a young (and, as we’ve learned, very stupid) man named Eduardo loses everyone he loves one by one after a massive shipment of drugs drops out of thin air at Rabo De Peixe. When Eduardo gets his friends Silvia, Carlinhos, and Rafael involved, he thinks he’s doing them a favor to help them grow along with him so they can escape the Azores and move to America. However, instead, Rafael is believed to be dead, Silvia is pregnant and stuck, and Carlinhos becomes an addict himself. Does Eduardo fix all of these issues by the end of the second season? Does Rafael return from the dead? What Happens to Detective Frias? Let’s find out at the end of season 2.
Spoiler Alert
Does Carlinhos get over his drug problem? At the beginning of season 2, Carlinhos is critically wounded in the hand. Then Eduardo and he get taken to prison for trying to enter America, but Carlinhos finds a loving man who is willing to go back to the Azores with him. However, it’s because of Eduardo that this man is killed, and Carlinhos is left in more pain than ever before. Carlinhos then spirals, and because of the pain in his hand as well as the loss of his man, he ends up taking opioids and becomes addicted, all after being deported back to the Azores and taken into the drug-dealing business yet again, this time thanks to Silvia. Carlinhos is given the cold turkey treatment by Joe after Eduardo meets his mother, and she shames him for messing up her son (fair enough). After this, Carlinhos looks like a human again (as Joe points out), and even the priest is willing to support him again (something to expand on for season 3), despite being rejected by him earlier, thanks to the drugs. Carlinhos has also returned to his music and will probably continue to sing in season 3.
How Does Silvia Cope With The Death Of Orlando? The ironic thing about this is that Silvia herself orchestrated Orlando’s death because he found out that Eduardo killed Arruda. I don’t know why she never felt okay to tell Orlando the truth about her father and how he treated her, because maybe Orlando, the more paternal of the two, might’ve actually believed her. Orlando took all the drugs from Joe and then made Silvia the leader. I think the only reason Silvia agreed to take up the drug-dealing job was likely because of her pregnancy. Anyway, when Orlando tells Silvia it’s time to get rid of her friends, she shows us who she’s loyal to by saving the kids and making it look like Orlando stole money from Ofelia. Now, it looks like Ophela knows that Silvia’s done this on purpose, but she goes along with it anyway because she wants to make the best use of Silvia’s potential.
Orlando is burned alive in front of Silvia, something she was not expecting. She did want to get rid of him, but that didn’t mean she’d like to watch another paternal figure die in front of her eyes, especially if it’s her fault. Silvia even celebrates her bye-bye to Orlando with the rest of the gang, but she’s dying on the inside because he was actually quite caring and supported her in many ways. Ofelia even tells Silvia it’s okay for women to get men out of her way, hinting that she knew Silvia planned the whole thing. I suppose Silvia dives nose deep into the job to really get over the fact that she watched her uncle burn to death.
Does Bruna Stay Clean?Eduardo messes with Bruna a second time in season 2 because everybody, including Bruna, knows that he’s never going to let go of Silvia. But Bruna has been trying her best to stay clear of coke despite the vivid dreams of being high. She’s tempted often, and Ian is like a big villain in her life, bringing her drugs all the time, yet Bruna endures. But when she sees Eduardo with Silvia again, she feels lonely and tempted. By the end of the show, she gets tempted again at a nightclub, and though we don’t see her snort the drug, we can imagine she’s gone back to her old ways, setting up enough space for another intervention in season 3. This Silvia-Eduardo-Bruna triangle is quite annoying, and it’s very clear that Eduardo’s always going to choose Silvia.
What Happens to Detective Frias’ Daughter?Season 2 sees a lot more of Detective Frias’ personal life than season one. We see her interacting with her first daughter, who decides to move back with her, even though her mom believes she’ll be better off with her dad. There are a lot of Frias in Marina, and she makes an effort to stay close to her mother. But Frias doesn’t have the time for family when she wants to be the one to catch the guys who dropped this load of drugs in this small town. Additionally, the rivalry between Banha and Frias grows through the season, and he’s a dirty cop, while she uses Eduardo to become an informant for her, but it doesn’t work out because Eduardo (kind of) betrays her. This leads to Frias’ suspension, something that Banha’s delighted about. Now, Frias even broke Banha’s nose, and he was clearly jealous of her and mad at her for messing up his plans. In the end, Marina is missing, and Frias looks everywhere but can’t find her. Marina’s not mad about Frias not returning for dinner because she already told her, though she said she would try, so it’s not the girl who ran away; it could be Banha, who likely got her kidnapped.
Is Monti Coming Back?Amongst the Italians, Monti’s like a cockroach who keeps coming back whenever he disappears. The last we saw of him, he fell off a cliff because the gang was meant to kill him, but I have a feeling he’s still around. Monti’s not the big villain we thought he was, though.
Does Ofelia’s Plan Work?In Turn Of The Tide season 2’s ending, we’re hit with a big twist when Fagner, the Italian man working for Ofelia, the Brazilian woman, kills her. It comes out of nowhere, considering she’s the one who has made this whole thing work out, and she brought the drugs to the Azores. Fagner’s always been jealous and mad about Ofelia’s operations, but he was especially mad when she involved Silvia and the kids. Additionally, when they go looking for the drugs again, they’re missing, so he believes Silvia and the gang took the drugs for themselves. Fagner’s ultimate plan is to incinerate the whole island, leaving no trace of what’s been done there. Unfortunately, Ofelia’s plans did not work out.
What Happens to Eduardo and the Gang?During Turn Of The Tide season 2’s ending, chaos ensues as Fagner decides to come for the kids. Silvia and the gang hide in the theater, but they can’t last there forever. It is Joe who ends up sacrificing himself for Eduardo, reminding him that he should stop this drug business and go back to leading a regular and earnest life like his father would’ve wanted. Throughout this season, we get hints that Joe wanted to go to America too and had big dreams like Eduardo, but Eduardo learned the hard way that once you get into this dirty business, there’s no coming out. While he did manage to get an out, because Silvia wanted to continue, he chose to stay back with her, and eventually, this is what messed up the whole thing. Talk about a toxic relationship. Additionally, we still don’t know who the father of the child is. Joe’s sacrifice is the ultimate hard hitter for Eduardo. He doesn’t really get the chance to mourn the guy, but he doesn’t have time to truly mourn him because he still needs to help the rest of them escape.
Eventually, it’s Silvia who shoots Fagner, and this leaves her too shocked to react, but Eduardo makes a decision right then. Considering Silvia is pregnant and he’s already been to prison once, he pretends he shot Fagner and takes the gun from Silvia. Eduardo goes to prison for Fagner’s murder so Silvia can have her child in peace. These two are never going to change, it seems.
Now, you may think this whole ordeal might’ve taught these younglings a lesson, but instead, it’s sent Eduardo into revenge mode. This means the drug business is never going to leave him, and he’s doing exactly what Uncle Joe and his father warned him against. Just like how he came back to the same thing at the end of season 1, he’s returned to square one in season 2 as well. On the other hand, Silvia’s given birth, and Rafael and she are raising the kid, though she’s not very happy about that. What I’m trying to figure out is who he’s going to be taking revenge on. Isn’t everyone important dead already? Well, the drugs are still around, and a politician now has his eyes on them. This means the Azores will continue to be the hotbed of cocaine for the time being. Eduardo’s lost everything, but it’s still not clear whose kid it is (probably Eduardo’s).
