Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk 8.5 Arrives: CKD From RM250K

Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk 8.5 arrives with early bird price of RM249,990.

The latest iteration of the iconic hot hatch, the Volkswagen Golf GTI, has officially been launched in Malaysia by Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM). This new model continues the Golf legacy, combining its hallmark daily practicality with truly thrilling performance.

The new Golf GTI is powered by a 2.0 TSI turbocharged petrol engine that now delivers an enhanced 265 PS, an increase of 20 PS over its predecessor. This power is managed by Volkswagen’s 7-speed DSG transmission.

The exterior has been sharpened with a redesigned front bumper featuring a honeycomb air intake and a distinctive ‘GTI’ radiator grille. Other ‘GTI’ parts include side skirts, rear bumper with dual chrome exhaust pipes.

It features new IQ.LIGHT 3D LED Matrix headlights and an illuminated VW logo, a first for a Volkswagen model in Malaysia. The Golf GTI is available in Oryx White, Moonstone Grey, Grenadilla Black, Kings Red, and Anemone Blue.

Inside, the ‘GTI’ theme continues with a black headliner, brushed stainless steel pedals, multi-function sports steering wheel with PHYSICAL buttons and front sport seats upholstered in Vienna leather. There are also ‘GTI’ specific black metal chrome trim pieces in the front door panels.

The driver-focused cabin features smarter technology, including an upgraded 12.9-inch tablet infotainment system running on the highly intuitive MIB4 system, complete with in-built navigation.

For an immersive audio experience, the GTI is equipped with a Harman Kardon sound system featuring nine precisely tuned speakers and a 480-watt digital amplifier with a subwoofer. Drivers will also benefit from a Head-Up Display that projects vital information like speed and navigation onto the windshield. There are 2 USB-C ports in the front and in the rear.

The new Golf GTI is available for purchase from RM255,990, inclusive of the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP).

This package supports the car with 5 years free maintenance, 5 years mileage warranty, and 5 years complimentary roadside assistance. Early birds can secure an exclusive price of RM249,990 including VAP, limited to the first 50 units registered by 31 December 2025.

Besides that, the most mainstream Volkswagen Golf R Line Mk 8.5 was also shown, marking its return to the market in CKD form. This new Golf is now a mild-hybrid electric vehicle powered by the 1.5L eTSI.

The powertrain is good for 150PS and 250Nm of torque which is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG. 0-100km/h takes 8.6 seconds and fuel consumption is rated at 5.2L/100km.

This version of the Golf comes with R-Line specific exterior parts such as the bumpers, radiator grille, chrome exhausts and side skirts. There’s also a new IQ.Light 3D LED Matrix headlight and the same new illuminated VW logo.

Inside, there’s the R-Line black headliner, brushed stainless steel pedals, Carbon Grey trim in the dash and door panels. Expect a launch price soon.
