Bario gets first Entrepreneurship Incubation Centre to boost highlands economy

MIRI (Nov 11): Bario’s first Entrepreneurship Incubation Centre (Pibu) has opened to help boost the sub-district’s economy.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala said the establishment of the centre in the highlands will empower local communities and aligns with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s vision to unlock the potential of rural areas through innovation, entrepreneurship, as well as digital economy.

“Pibu will serve as a platform for entrepreneurial guidance, business registration, and networking — connecting Bario entrepreneurs with both government and private agencies.

“It will also assist entrepreneurs in obtaining business licences, grants, and financing schemes to strengthen and expand their ventures,” he said when opening the centre in Bario yesterday.

Gerawat said the government aims to ensure that the people of Bario, especially the younger generation, transition from traditional economic activities to modern sectors such as e-commerce, modern contracting, and digital innovation.

On the Creative Thinking and Innovation Culture Course for Contractors and Suppliers held in conjunction with the launch, Gerawat said he hoped that it would produce skilled, professional, and innovative contractors capable of delivering development projects of high and sustainable standards.

“The Sarawak government remains committed to developing a community-based rural economy, with Bario envisioned as a model of a prosperous and competitive rural settlement.

“With the spirit of collaboration among all stakeholders, Bario will not only be known for its natural beauty but also for its entrepreneurial excellence and innovation,” he said.

He also urged participants and entrepreneurs to make full use of the opportunities offered through Pibu and to continue striving and innovating for shared progress.
