A group of Malay women were praised for their act of kindness towards two stray puppies they rescued by driving hundreds of kilometres to another state just to send them to an animal shelter.

Their compassion was shared in a Facebook post by the animal shelter, where it garnered over 2,000 likes at the time of writing.

Drove from Perak to Penang to send puppies

In the caption, the animal shelter wrote that the women drove all the way from Kuala Kangsar to Bukit Mertajam to drop off two puppies they rescued earlier.

“Love brings us together, bound by compassion. Our heartfelt thanks to a family from the Malay community for rescuing two puppies and driving all the way from Kuala Kangsar to deliver them to our shelter.

“Their humble wish to remain out of the spotlight only strengthens our belief: protecting life is the purest form of kindness,” it read.

Touched by women’s kindness

Speaking to China Press, the animal shelter’s manager, Wang Zhenwei (transliteration), said the women brought the puppies over on Nov 13.

“They felt sorry for the puppies and decided to bring them to the shelter. Both puppies are in good health, and we are very grateful that people of different religions and races are willing to help and care for life. This form kindness is truly precious.”

Wang added the shelter often receives stray dogs brought in by people of all ethnicities and believes the women found the shelter via an online search.

“The women also used our shelter’s ‘Pet Taxi’ service to send in another female dog they rescued and made a donation. Another injured puppy they saved is still undergoing treatment at a veterinary clinic and will be placed at the shelter upon getting discharged.

“The shelter currently houses about 1,400 dogs and 450 cats and it relies on public donations. I hope the public will continue to support our work,” he said.
