KUCHING, Dec 8: Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, delivered a heartfelt tribute to Sarawak’s cultural heritage, expressing deep admiration for the state’s craftsmanship and the warmth she receives each time she visits.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, Tengku Ampuan of Pahang also conveyed her appreciation for Sarawak’s willingness to collaborate with Pahang in promoting the distinct cultural expressions, textiles, and craftsmanship of both states, noting that such cooperation strengthens an already longstanding friendship.
“And that is why I truly feel humbled when Sarawak asks me to lead or to inspire. In reality, I am the student here, because Sarawak is a ‘library’ of crafts, and I am merely opening page after page, viewing them with profound gratitude,” she said during the official opening of the Borneo international Textile Festival (BiTF) 2025 Seminar.
“You honour me by accepting my presence in your world of heritage, but truthfully, you are my teachers.”
She added that she hoped not to be viewed as someone standing at the front to lead, but rather as a student seated among those whose heritage and artistry she deeply respects.
In her address, Tengku Ampuan of Pahang also reflected on the close bond shared between Pahang and Sarawak, emphasising that the relationship extends far beyond ceremonial ties.
“Truly, Sarawak has become my second home, and you are all like my cousins.
“This is not just friendship; this is a long and joyous bond of affection between Pahang and Sarawak, two states united by heritage, respect, and love,” she said.
To her, Sarawakians’ warm hospitality during every visit makes her feel as though she is returning to her own home, where she is always welcomed with genuine affection.
She further stressed that her participation at the event was not as royalty, but as a learner eager to deepen her understanding of Sarawak’s intricate and time-honoured craft traditions.
Also present during the event was the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Datuk Snowdan Lawan along with other distinguished guests. — DayakDaily
