Why Kumaar Family’s Logesh quit full-time YouTube and returned to work

SHAH ALAM - Malaysian youtuber Logesh Kumaar, widely recognised for his Kumaar Family channel, has acknowledged that his attempt to pursue YouTube as a full-time career did not work out, leading him to return to regular employment.
Reflecting on his earlier ambitions, he admitted the transition to full-time online content creation did not go as planned.
"One of my dreams of trying to be full-time YouTuber and the reality is, you know not to sugarcoat it is I failed.
"I would have regretted more, if I just didn’t try at all," he said in a recent video.
Logesh and his wife, Rachel Kumaar, explained that the financial demands increased significantly once they relied entirely on content creation for income.
“You know, financially the burden of providing the family gets a bit more heavy, get a bit more difficult and challenging," he said.
Throughout the 16-minute video, the couple spoke about the unpredictable nature of online income, mentioning periods of strong brand deals followed by stretches where they faced financial difficulties.
Logesh added that the pressure for every upload to perform well led to a loss of creative freedom.
"And when that becomes sort of like a pressure, I was sort of like making content that’s geared towards like how can we get more views? How can we make brands happy? How can we make more money?" he said.
He noted that he once enjoyed the creative process far more when YouTube was not his primary job, as he previously felt free to create without worrying about performance metrics.
After revisiting their financial situation, the couple agreed it was best for him to return to full-time work.
“Okay, so after deciding you know that I wanted to go back to work obviously you know I started applying for jobs and this happened right before our trip to Malaysia which is all the vlogs that you have been watching right," he recounted.
Logesh explained that one company reached out shortly after he applied.
“So I applied for a job and this one company reached out so I started interviewing with them, I did six interview rounds and I was still in America and then there’s two more interview rounds while I was already travelling," he said.
He was eventually offered a position, although the role required a relocation from the San Francisco Bay Area to Los Angeles, prompting a major move for the family.
Rachel said the change was initially difficult as she already had a stable job in the Bay Area.
“After he accepted the job, I started applying for jobs for me to work at down here and was up til like 1am in Malaysia interviewing for jobs over Facetime or whatnot to try to secure a job here so that we moved here, we were ready to go," she added.
Shortly after returning from Malaysia, the couple travelled to Los Angeles to secure housing. They then proceeded with onboarding, packing and the full relocation process.
They are now settling in their new home in Culver City. The couple said the added income stability from their new jobs has eased the financial load.
Logesh thanked viewers for their continued support, saying: "So thank you very much for just constantly coming on this crazy journey with us."
He also clarified that they are not stepping away from YouTube entirely, although their content will naturally evolve with their changing circumstances.
“We got to hide from now. We can just be creative. We can just share our lives, share stories, bring people together, talk about different cultures, travel, food, all that jazz without worrying about other things," he said.
Logesh, who launched his channel in May 2020, is known for sharing family life and cultural experiences. With over 792,000 subscribers on YouTube, his content often contrasts Malaysian heritage with American life. His most popular video features a Christmas Eve scavenger hunt ending with a surprise dream car for his wife.
