KUCHING, Jan 17: A grandmother acted swiftly to save three children after a fire broke out at a two-storey wooden house in Kampung Sessang, Kabong, early this morning.
The incident occurred at about 7am, while the 66-year-old house owner, had already left for work. His wife was at home with their grandchildren when she heard unusual sounds coming from the upper floor of the house.
Upon checking, she discovered that the upper level of the house was already on fire.
She immediately brought the three children out of the house to safety before alerting nearby neighbours to contact the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).
In a statement today, Saratok District Police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said no injuries or fatalities were reported.
“The fire involved a two-storey wooden house and was believed to have started from the upper floor.
“The house was occupied by two adults and three children,” he said.
Firefighters from the Saratok Fire and Rescue Department, assisted by personnel from Kabong Police Station and the Kabong Volunteer Fire Brigade, were dispatched to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control.
Manggie added that preliminary investigations found no elements of crime or sabotage in the incident.
“The case has been referred to the Saratok Fire and Rescue Department for further investigation, and the total losses are still being assessed,” he said. — DayakDaily
