Umno’s support for Unity Government remains firm, says Zahid during winding-up speech

KUALA LUMPUR — Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reiterated that the party’s support for the Unity Government remains unwavering.

The Bagan Datuk MP acknowledged the concerns of some party members over Umno’s cooperation with the coalition.

He said that discussions and pressure were a natural part of coalition politics, pointing out that PKR also holds internal retreats to address party issues.

“If we hold discussions within the party, PKR also holds retreats among themselves. The Prime Minister, as PKR president, is also pressured by his own members,” he said.

Although he did not attend the PKR retreat because he was not a member, Zahid said he was informed that the PKR president had told his members that they could not demand everything from the coalition and that he would not agree to all requests, as there are 17 parties in the government.

“Even though I was not present at the retreat because I am not a member, I was informed that the PKR president told his members that they cannot ask for everything and he will not give everything, because there are 17 parties in the government now,” he said.

Zahid made the remarks while delivering his winding-up speech on the president’s policy address at the 2025 Umno General Assembly at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur today.
