One killed, one seriously injured after car plunges into drain along Jalan Penrissen

KUCHING, Jan 18: A 51-year-old man was killed while another sustained serious injuries following a road accident along Jalan Penrissen, Batu 8, late last night.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, it received an emergency call at 11.35pm last night regarding an accident which involved a Honda Civic EG6 that reportedly skidded off the road before plunging into a roadside drain.

A team from the Kota Sentosa Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene and arrived within seven minutes. Firefighters found two adult male victims, aged 51 and 23, who had been thrown out of the vehicle upon impact.

Rescue personnel used a stretcher to safely extricate both victims and bring them up to the side of the road. One victim was found conscious but suffered serious injuries and was subsequently transported by a Health Ministry ambulance to Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment.

The second victim was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The rescue operation, led by the officer-in-charge, involved six firefighters and a fire rescue tender, and concluded at approximately 1.10am.

Police and Health Ministry personnel were also present to assist and conduct further investigations. – DayakDaily
