MIRI (Feb 9): Democratic Action Party (DAP) has called on the Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) to urgently address the prolonged delay in the upgrade of the toilet facilities at the ground floor of Miri Airport.
DAP Sarawak secretary Alan Ling said the project, which began in 2025, was meant to improve passenger comfort but remains unfinished with no clear timeline for completion.
Following numerous public complaints, Ling visited the site, and expressed disappointment over the lack of visible progress.
“It is unacceptable that a project intended to enhance the passenger experience has been dragging on for so long. MAHB must provide a clear explanation for the delay, and expedite the completion of the works,” he said.
Ling said the ongoing situation has forced passengers and tourists to endure substandard facilities, with many voicing their dissatisfaction on social media.
“The delay has also affected Miri’s image as a tourist destination, with some visitors describing the airport as ‘unwelcoming’ and ‘neglected’,” he said, adding he would raise the matter with federal Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He also stressed the need for accountability, transparency and urgency from MAHB in resolving the issue, as to date, MAHB has yet to provide feedback on the status of the project or announce a revised completion timeline.
