Reckless Movie Ending Explained & Full Story: What Happens To Devon?
When you’re unable to get rid of a bad Guy Ritchie hangover, “Reckless” happens. That might be too harsh a description of director Elliott Montello’s film, but you know I’m not wrong here. That said, I kinda ended up enjoying it. Sure, it’s a Guy Ritchie knockoff, but as I have a thing for those films, I didn’t mind this one. Not sure if that was the case for you, though; anyway, in this article we’re going to simplify the movie for you and discuss its ending.
Spoilers Ahead
What happens in the movie?Sloppiness is written all over a bank robbery performed by Devon, Kyle, Toby, and George. They don’t have enough bags and almost get caught while fleeing. Upon reaching the rendezvous point—i.e., an airport—Devon finds out the bag George threw at him while escaping doesn’t have any money in it. What’s further worse is the police—led by no-nonsense Detective Jackson—have arrived to catch Devon. That ruins his plan of settling down with his girlfriend, Veronica—who was also present during the robbery and warned Devon about his mates betraying him—as he ends up in jail, sentenced to five years.
After serving almost his whole sentence, Devon gets out on parole, and the first thing he does is pay George a visit, that too with a loaded gun he picked up from former associate Giuseppe. As his luck would have it, George, who is grade-A garbage, appears to be busy assaulting his secretary, Kimberly, aka Kimber—and the moment Devon walks into his office, Kimber ends up murdering George. Sure, Kimber had no plan to do that, but this puts both her and Devon in a difficult position. And given both of them have George’s blood all over them, they’ve no choice but to go on the run and hope things sort themselves out.
Does Kimber kill Toby? With his plan of settling scores with George, getting his money, and moving on with life going for a toss, Devon has no other option but to go to Toby next. As far as Kimber is concerned, she flat out rejects Devon’s proposal to drop her off at the police station. Her life is a mess, as she’s going through a separation from a terrible husband, who instigated her to give George what he wanted in exchange for money in the first place. And with how she didn’t get much support from the police previously, when she complained against George, she knows for a fact that she’ll be screwed if she goes to police. So these two partner up in this dire circumstance and go to Toby, with Devon hoping his old mate can help him out.
Toby, who’s a gangster running a soft toy business as a front, however, crushes Devon’s hopes by being hostile and refusing to pay a dime. Instead, he asks Devon to accept what happened and get on with life—That’s all Devon is trying to do anyway, for which he needs some seed money that he’s owed. Clearly Toby doesn’t feel the same way, but he doesn’t feel much of anything but pain after Kimber pops up and takes a shot at him literally. Well, she was only trying to save Devon by shooting Toby in the leg, but his own gun goes off accidentally, ending up killing him.
Is there anyone pulling the strings from behind?Movies like these usually have a big baddie, and “Reckless” is no exception. With George and Toby dead within the span of hours, Devon is back on the police’s radar, and again, it’s Jackson who’s pursuing him. But that’s not the number 1 problem Devon has at the moment. Turns out, Toby and George were on the payroll of this man, Trent—basically the final boss running the whole show. The guy is your stereotypical British villain and also a well-respected figure in society. He is also an adulterer, but his wife makes it clear that she couldn’t care less about his “side piece.” However, she is mad at him for not having his shady business under control, as it could ruin their reputation in the society. So Trent assures her he’ll take care of the matter, which is Devon, who has already killed two of Trent’s minions. Needless to say, Trent is the man who made the decision of throwing Devon under the bus five years ago. Devon doesn’t know about any of this; he doesn’t even know who Trent is. To handle the situation, Trent brings in this lunatic, the Bishop of Belmarsh (the same prison where Devon served his time), a sleazy prison rapist who’s always hungry and horny—for men.
Devon, meanwhile, visits Veronica, who is now married and has a daughter. He doesn’t blame her for not waiting for him, though; he himself asked her never to visit him. And if he had listened to her, he wouldn’t be in this situation. But this does leave him heartbroken on a day when nothing is going right. Devon and Kimber bond over their misery and how they’ve always been on the receiving end of a pointy stick. They both sort of know they can’t get out of this situation, although Devon has one last card to play.
What’s up with Kyle?Kyle was the closest to Devon back then, but that doesn’t mean he was not in on it—the decision to sacrifice Devon, that is. After taking a beating from Devon, Kyle does admit that, and also promises to rectify his mistake by paying Devon the money he deserves. He even promises to get a lawyer for Kimber to sort her situation out. Of course, things can’t go that easy for men like Devon, so it’s not a surprise that Kyle is only bluffing as the Bishop enters the scene. But while I thought this guy would be hard to beat, Devon and Kimber do it pretty easily, leaving him half dead. By the time Jackson shows up at Kyle’s apartment, our guy and Kimber have fled. Devon got himself terribly injured, though, while fighting the Bishop.
What happens to Devon in the end?I guess Devon (and Kimber) having a confrontation with Trent, along with his associate, Willmont, and two other henchmen is something y’all saw coming from miles away. Predictably, “Reckless” gives us just that. As Devon and Kimber end up on a carousel and contemplate their situation, they get ambushed by Trent and his guys. Despite knowing who Trent is, Devon doesn’t seem to be too scared. He has accepted his fate anyway, but what’s saddening is Kimber being a part of it. That probably offered him the motivation to fight Trent’s associates, and just when one of them is about to blow his head off, Jackson comes to his rescue. Shortly after, Jackson picks up Trent from his own home and puts him in the pen, that too with Bishop. Also, there may or may not be something brewing between Jackson and Trent’s wife, not that I blame any of them.
“Reckless” ends with Kimber paying Devon a visit in prison. Yes, it’s no surprise he’s back there after what happened on the day he got out, but now with Kimber in his life, our guy has hope. Especially with her insisting he look for her when he gets out, you know for a fact that there’s a future for these two, which is reassuring at the end of all the recklessness.
