A couple’s attempt to help a friend allegedly ended in violence when the man is believed to have returned with others to rob their home in Kepong and steal a car.
The couple was injured during the incident after they were assaulted by suspects armed with parangs, stun guns and golf clubs.
The victim, a 32-year-old woman who identified herself only as Chua, said the robbery took place at their fourth-floor shop-house unit in Bandar Manjalara, Kepong at about 6:38 AM on Friday (13 March).
She said she and her boyfriend were asleep when five people, four men and a woman, broke into their home.
The couple was unable to fight back and was beaten, resulting in injuries
“For our own safety, we handed over our belongings,” Chua said, adding that the suspects took cash, mobile phones, identity cards, bank cards and the keys to a friend’s car that was kept at the house.
The suspects later drove off in a silver Honda Civic belonging to the friend.
Chua claimed that one of the intruders was a close friend of her boyfriend whom they had helped several times and had allowed to stay with them.
She estimated their losses at about RM6,000 in cash and valuables, not including the stolen car.
Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner Basri Sagoni confirmed that a police report was lodged at about 12:10 AM on Sunday (15 March).
He said the suspects had entered the rented unit, argued with the occupants and fled with car keys, three mobile phones and personal documents.
Both suspects have been remanded until March 20. The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery and armed robbery.
