KUALA NERUS: The Ministry of Education (MOE) has pledged to ensure all new school construction projects nationwide proceed without disruption despite facing challenges from the global energy crisis.
MOE deputy secretary-general (Planning and Development) Datuk Wan Hashim Wan Rahim said a total of 38 new school projects have been approved this year under the First Rolling Plan of the 13th Malaysia Plan.
“We are aware of the current challenges, with global issues putting pressure on the country’s economic situation, but with proper planning, insya-Allah, we will ensure that all these projects can be implemented as soon as possible,” he told reporters.
He said the government would take proactive measures to ensure the global economic crisis does not affect the continuity of school construction and maintenance works.
Wan Hashim was speaking after officiating the handover ceremony for a new 30-classroom block and other facilities at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tok Jembal.
He said the newly completed SMK Tok Jembal, built at a cost of approximately RM40 million over 36 months, is scheduled to begin operations in July.
A total of 481 students from four nearby schools in the Kuala Nerus area will be relocated to the new school to reduce overcrowding at their original institutions.
“Insya-Allah, we will be able to ease the burden on these four schools, while students will be able to enjoy a more conducive and comfortable learning environment,” he added.
The construction includes 30 classrooms capable of accommodating approximately 1,000 students along with a multipurpose hall, toilets, and a surau.
