PARIT: A 42-year-old grass cutter was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by two separate courts today after pleading guilty to possessing 342 obscene videos, including child pornography, accumulated over the past 10 years.
At the Parit Magistrate’s Court, Idham Rhusla Mohamad Shahuri admitted to possessing 341 obscene videos on a mobile phone, with Magistrate Nurul Izalina Rajaai ordering the father of two to serve the six-month sentence from today.
The charge, framed under Section 292(a) of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to three years or a fine or both, stated he was found with the videos on an Oppo A35 phone at Kampung Sadang, Belanja Kiri, in the Perak Tengah district.
Meanwhile, at the Ipoh Sessions Court, the same man received a concurrent six-month jail term after pleading guilty to a separate charge of possessing one child pornography video on the same device.
Judge Jean Sharmila Jesudason ordered that sentence to commence from his arrest date on April 6, also imposing a three-year police supervision order and mandatory rehabilitation counselling upon his release.
The second charge was framed under Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a maximum jail term of five years or a fine of up to RM10,000 or both.
Represented by National Legal Aid Foundation counsel M. Kathan, the accused appealed for a lenient sentence starting from his arrest date, citing his dependants and his monthly income of about RM1,800 from odd jobs.
His counsel also highlighted that his guilty plea saved the court time and costs.
