Request for 300 litres of BUDI95 for media practitioners brought to MTEN meeting – Fahmi

THE request to maintain the 300-litre quota of RON95 petrol for media practitioners will be brought to the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) meeting this Tuesday.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the request voiced by the Malaysian Media Clubs Association (GKMM) will be decided by MTEN, and feedback will be given later.

"I will bring it to the MTEN meeting on Tuesday to seek further consideration regarding the request," he said after officiating the Universiti Malaya (UM) Public Health Awareness Campaign in Pantai Dalam, today.

Yesterday, GKMM requested the government to consider a special exemption for registered media practitioners to maintain the 300-litre quota of RON95 petrol per month.

GKMM said it had received many complaints from media practitioners, especially in states that require them to travel long distances and commute to coverage locations every day.

According to the association, the government's decision to limit the BUDI95 quota to 200 litres per month is currently beginning to pose a major challenge for media practitioners to complete their tasks in the field.

Commenting further, Fahmi said that the Ministry of Communications has also taken proactive steps to make it easier for media practitioners to obtain information on current issues, including the global energy crisis.

“Starting next Wednesday, the briefing session on the global energy crisis and the post-Cabinet Meeting press conference will be implemented in a hybrid format.

“This is to enable journalists, whether working in Putrajaya, to attend physically or those in Kuala Lumpur to follow online and submit questions,” he said.

Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government Spokesperson, said that the initiative was taken to ensure more comprehensive access to information, in addition to taking into account the logistical and cost constraints currently faced by media practitioners. – April 18, 2026
