Temporary baggage system disruption at KLIA Terminal 1 resolved (video)

BAGGAGE handling operations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 were temporarily disrupted earlier this evening following a power outage linked to an external power station.

In a statement, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) said the incident affected the airport’s baggage handling system (BHS), resulting in delays in processing luggage for arriving passengers.

Recovery works were swiftly undertaken, and the system has since been fully restored, the airport operator said.

MAHB added that check-in and departure operations resumed progressively, with minimal disruption reported to outbound flights.

“Authorities, in coordination with airlines, are continuing efforts to ensure affected passengers can retrieve their baggage as soon as possible,” MAHB said.

“To manage congestion during the disruption, airport staff implemented crowd control measures within the terminal,” it added.

Passengers were advised to temporarily leave the arrival hall and return later to collect their baggage, with re-entry permitted upon presentation of their boarding passes.

Regular announcements and on-site updates were issued throughout the incident, while refreshments were provided to affected passengers.

Officials also confirmed that all baggage remained secure and is now being released for collection.

MAHB expressed appreciation to passengers for their patience and cooperation during the disruption.

The disruption drew attention on social media, where videos and posts showing crowded arrival halls and passengers waiting for extended periods circulated widely.

Some users expressed frustration over the delays and questioned the airport’s operational reliability, reflecting ongoing public sensitivity to service disruptions at the country’s main aviation hub.

Past incidents at KLIA have similarly gained rapid traction online, amplifying scrutiny of airport operations. - April 18, 2026
