According to New Straits Times, Jad Faid Arhan, a captain from the Defence Ministry’s artillery division, is accused of causing the death of 22-year-old Muzahid Millad, a gaming content creator known as “Advance Gaming”.
Could face death penaltyThe charge was read before Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan, where Jad responded, “I understand.” No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
The offence allegedly took place at around 5.30am on April 23 at Km1.9 of the MEX, from Salak Selatan towards Jalan Tun Razak.
If convicted, he faces the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, along with whipping if the death penalty is not imposed.
Bail was not granted, and the court set July 31 for mention.
Pleaded not guilty for two other chargesIn a separate proceeding, Jad pleaded not guilty to two charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and causing injuries to an e-hailing driver and passenger.
The court also denied bail for these charges and ordered his driving licence to be suspended pending the outcome of the case.
The prosecution is seeking a joint trial for both the murder and drink-driving charges.
The incident reportedly occurred when the accused lost control of his vehicle and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with an e-hailing car carrying Muzahid and his wife, who were travelling from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to the city centre.
Muzahid died at the scene, while his wife and the driver sustained injuries. Police said breathalyser tests showed the accused’s alcohol level was above the legal limit.
