A new YouTube subscription tier is starting to show up for some users in Malaysia. Called Premium Lite, it costs RM12.90 per month, but it doesn’t offer the same coverage as the standard Premium plan.
Access is still limited at time of writing. Not all users can see it yet, which suggests a gradual rollout.
Ads Aren’t Fully RemovedThe main appeal of Premium Lite is fewer ads, but not a completely ad-free experience.

Despite the limitations, Premium Lite keeps some of the features people usually want. Background play is included, and videos can still be downloaded for offline viewing.
These features apply mainly to standard video content rather than the entire app.
Same Price As Student But Not The Same ValuePremium Lite is priced at RM12.90, which matches the Student plan. The difference is that the Student plan includes full Premium access at a discounted rate, while Lite reduces features to hit the same price point.
Availability Is Still Limited

There’s no confirmed timeline for wider availability.
YouTube now effectively has four plans in Malaysia:
Premium Lite sits as a lower-cost option for users who want fewer ads but don’t need the full set of features.
