Samsung widely rolling out stable One UI 8.5 update, five months after the beta started

Samsung has gotten much faster at software updates over the past few years, but One UI 8.5 is an odd case, only now rolling out after over five months in beta.

The first beta update for One UI 8.5 was released on December 8, 2025. One UI 8.5 is the software version that would later launch on the Galaxy S26 series in late February 2026. The beta expanded to other Galaxy devices such as the Z Fold 7 in mid-March, with a wider expansionlater that month.

Now that One UI 8.5 is rolling out as a stable update – a rollout that, as you’re reading this, is expanding widely to Galaxy devices across the globe – we’re just wondering why this one took so long.

Samsung had this update in beta for five months, despite only being an update to the One UI skin and not the underlying Android OS version, which is still Android 16. One UI 8.5 wasn’t a minor update by any means, with plenty of design tweaks and feature adjustments, but it’s still a strange delay on Samsung’s part. It’s the second time we’ve seen a weird delay like this, with the rollout of One UI 7 in 2025 – yes, that was barely a year ago – being another notable exception to what has otherwise been a recent track record of exceptionally speedy updates from Samsung.

Whatever the problem, we’re finally at the end.

Samsung is actively rolling out One UI 8.5 across the globe with reports coming in for devices such as the Galaxy S25, Z Fold 7, S24, and many other devices in many regions too. Even US carriers are on board with the rollout as of today. The company announced the rollout late last week.

Here’s the full list of Galaxy devices currently getting One UI 8.5 – a list that’s sure to expand very soon.
