Lee Chean Chung skipped 30 critical planning sessions - says PKR

PARTI Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has slammed Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung for publicly questioning the future of the city while allegedly neglecting his duty in the most critical local planning sessions.

According to PKR, official records show Lee attended only 2 out of 32 sessions of the Petaling Jaya Local Plan (RTPJ) from October 2024 to May 2026.

The party accused him of leaving his seat empty during meetings meant for elected representatives to engage in shaping the city’s development.

Attendance or accountability?

The RTPJ, described as Petaling Jaya’s 10-15 year “master plan,” covers high-rise developments, traffic management, drainage systems, and public transport integration.

PKR argued that the quality of life for PJ residents could be affected for a decade if the plan is mishandled.

“Ironically, YB Lee accuses MBPJ of lacking transparency when he himself has attended only two sessions out of 32 organised since October 2024,” PKR’s deputy secretary general Bryan Ng Yih Miin said in a statement.

“He was fully aware of the invitations but chose to skip 30 official sessions.”

Ng also noted that technical issues like traffic studies and population density assessments, which Lee now criticises, were discussed in the sessions he missed.

By not attending, they argued, he denied his constituents a voice in forums that shape the city’s future.

Public transport and last-mile connectivity

Ng further stressed that public transport and last-mile connectivity were core topics in the RTPJ technical discussions.

“As an MP, he should have been present to offer official suggestions, not just complain from the sidelines,” he added.

Lee reportedly criticised waiting times for on-demand services and suggested mini-bus routes.

PKR countered that he had direct access to submit these proposals officially to MBPJ rather than airing them on social media.

“All talk, no action”

The statement highlighted a recurring pattern in Lee’s public statements. For example, during flash floods in Taman Sri Manja and Jalan 223 in April 2025, his only response was a media statement suggesting studies.

A year later, in May 2026, he issued a nearly identical statement without any concrete timeline or action.

By contrast, MBPJ officials reportedly visited flood sites, coordinated agencies, and implemented infrastructure solutions.

PKR calls for accountability

Meanwhile, Ng urged Lee to stop using reformist rhetoric to mask personal performance gaps.

“The people of Petaling Jaya deserve an MP who works in the meeting room, not just a ‘keyboard champion’ who criticises after technical work is almost done,” Ng said.

The statement concluded with a warning against populist attacks on public servants to cover a lack of commitment and called for genuine transparency and participation in decision-making. – May 13, 2026
