The Outsiders celebrates Apple Design Award nomination with huge update
1 hour ago
Just days after being nominated for a 2026 Apple Design Award in the Interaction category, The Outsiders rolled out a major update with Home Screen widgets, expanded workout import options, new metrics, additional workout types, and more. Here are the details.
The Outsiders version 1.7 hit the App Store today, on the heels of an Apple Design Awards 2026 nomination in the Interaction category, a feat for an app released just 8 months ago.
To say the nomination is well-deserved is an understatement. Since its release, the team at Gentler Stories has been updating the app to make it even more powerful, more flexible, and more useful for users whose workout routine goes beyond casual exercise.
Today, The Outsiders is getting its biggest update since launch, with several welcome additions, including many of the features users have been asking for most.
That includes Home Screen widgets, “the number one ask since launch,” according to Andrej Mihelic, Gentler Stories co-founder and product designer.
Now, The Outsiders users can quickly check “Training Readiness, Training Load Ratio, Endurance Fitness, and Health Metrics” right from their Home Screen, with single or multiple layouts.
Another much-requested addition is the ability to import workouts from beyond the Apple Watch. With today’s update, Garmin workouts can now be imported automatically into The Outsiders, while manual imports are supported for workouts from Zwift, Wahoo, COROS, Karoo, Amazfit, and any other platform that can export .FIT files to Apple Health.
The Outsiders now supports 161 workout types, with the full set now including “Dog Running, Kettlebell Workout, Swimming Tethered, Gravel Ride, Outdoor Hand Cycling, Bouldering, Windsurfing, Beach Volleyball, Inline Hockey, Surfskate, BMX Freestyle, BMX Racing,” in addition to Assembling Furniture, “likely the one most in demand,” says the press release.
These new workout types arrive alongside a new metric: number of sessions, with support for both Progress and Workouts. It also includes four new states, Active Recovery, On a Break, Injured, and Sick, for users in need of a break.
On the other end of the spectrum, The Outsiders version 1.7 now lets users switch from “Training Load Ratio” to “Training Form.” Here’s Gentler Stories on what that means, and who it is for:
Finally, the update includes a new UI for body metrics that opens as individual cards, a map view for photos taken during a workout session, and several new icons to customize the app even further.
The Outsiders is available for free on the App Store, with monthly, yearly, and lifetime subscription options to unlock its full set of features.
