The Pyramid Scheme Recap And Ending Explained: What Happens To Goldy And Shrivastav?

TVF never fails to come up with relatable, relevant and heartfelt content over the years, be it “Panchayat,” “Cubicles,” “Aspirants,” “Kota Factory,” or “TVF Pitchers.” They perfectly show the audience the comedy and tragedy of our everyday life, instead of chasing the idea of larger-than-life stuff. “The Pyramid Scheme” accurately portrays the initial excitement and the ultimate tragedy of staying involved with pyramid or ponzi schemes, where people lose their hard earned money quite easily. These schemes are still existing, despite the constant efforts of the Government of India because unless we actively make an attempt, nobody can really change us. In this story, Chunmun and his wife, Kanchan, are employees of Jumbolife,  a company that sells pyramid schemes. The couple, along with their daughter Krittika, convinces Pratham, her college friend to join the scheme. We see Goldy Chauhan, a mobile accessory shop owner struggling to make money. While he thinks of borrowing money from his grandfather Babu, Goldy gets the chance to be a part of Jumbolife, and you know what follows.

Spoilers Ahead

Why Does Babu Give Money To Goldy?

Goldy’s grandfather, Babu gets a lot of insurance money after losing his wife and the entire family wants a share of it. Babu already hates Goldy and his father because apparently, they are the lousy ones. Since Babu will not give them money, Goldy calls Chunmun, a Jumbolife agent whom he met at the grocery store and asks him to let him know the exact amount of insurance money. While Babu tells everyone that it’s a meagre amount, Goldy calls him aside and lets him know that he is very much aware of the actual amount being 22.5 lakh. Babu gives Goldy a hefty sum just to shut him up.

What Makes Goldy Surrender His Shop?

Goldy was not earning much from his mobile shop anyway; he was basically scamming middle-aged people to buy second hand phones at the original price. Plus, he had taken a huge loan from a loan shark and had no savings to fall back on. Upon knowing about Jumbolife, seeing its range of products and the achievements of their employees, Goldy gets blinded by them. Jumbolife’s senior employees, Chunmun and Divyajyoti convince Goldy to join their firm. At a conference in Delhi, Goldy meets Tarun Bajaj, the face of Jumbolife. Goldy will add four people under his name, each of them will add four, which is basically a pyramid scheme. Each agent will sell some rebranded products from Jumbolife but their main task is team building. Goldy he joins the company after being called to the stage and hyped up by Tarun.

Gabbar Unknowingly Does Goldy A Favour

Goldy wants to show his grandfather how much he has improved since he has joined his “new business”. Babu gets impressed after meeting Goldi and asks him to run an errand for him – visiting the relatives’ houses and inviting them to a worshipping ceremony which is scheduled to take place in the upcoming days. For that, Babu hands him over his diary with the address and contact number of the relatives, which is a golden opportunity for Goldy who’s desperate to search people and convince them of joining Jumbolife. By giving him keys to a new bike, Babu makes Goldy’s task easier because this way, he can strengthen his business profile in Jumbolife much faster.

Goldy Uses Shrivastav To Take Revenge On Chunmum for the abuse

Shrivastav, who’s passionate about music, loses his job as a school teacher after taking the kids for a music video shoot during school hours. Goldy knew about this passion of Shrivastav because he used to go to his shop for paid likes on his YouTube videos. However, while he is on his way to Shrivastav’s house, Chunmun and Jumbolife’s popular employee, Don, stop him. According to them, Goldy has no right to approach Shrivastav because Don has offered him a spot before. But Goldy, who’s desperate to add more members in his team, ditches the main road to avoid Chunmun, climbs boundary walls and reaches Shrivastav’s house. By the time Don and Chunmun walks through the door, Goldy has convinced Shrivastav to join Jumbolife by luring him with more subscribers.

What Helps Shrivastav To Gain An Upperhand On  Chunmun?

Once Shrivastav  arrives at the ceremony in Goldy’s house, he gets put to the test, because it is his first day of selling products. He dreams of admitting his son in a private school that teaches horse riding and this is the only way that can happen. Goldy convinces the local villagers like Nanhe and his friends but he finds Shrivastav’s product demos problematic. Despite being a senior, Chunmun messes up while trying to teach the villagers Arabic while luring them for a Dubai trip. While Goldy has mocked Shrivastav for being too friendly with the villagers, his demo has attracted a huge crowd. Shrivastav has come from a struggling family himself and his oratory skills convince those villagers to invest in Jumbolife and live a life of luxury. Shrivastav mostly talks about stuff that’s relatable, easy to understand, and close to the heart of the poor people, which turns out to be the best strategy to fool them into signing up for the scam.

What Makes Goldy Embarrass Tarun?

Goldy and Shrivastav want their team members to meet Tarun at the conference in Haridwar. However, Tarun’s manager misbehaves with Goldy on the call and lies about the man being busy. Tarun sits behind the phone screen, listening to Goldy’s words and asks for a huge sum of money just to come on stage. Goldy tries to understand why Tarun will charge money from his own team and in the meantime, Divyajyoti and Chunmun make fun of his situation. After all, Goldy is the one who has promoted Shrivastav and their newly formed team. On the day of the event, everything goes successful, including Randheer and influencer Kirti’s dance. Just before Tarun is supposed to enter the stage, he demands half of his money from Goldy. In place of Tarun, Shrivastav steps into the spotlight and wins the hearts of the entire audience through his emotional speeches. He also gets the perfect opportunity to sing and convey his message to the young audience in the conference, leaving Tarun in dismay. Within weeks of this concert, Shirvastav became the face of Jumbolife, replacing Tarun.

Shravan And Daljeet Tries To Divide Goldy And Shrivastav

Goldy and Shrivastav’s profits were way more than Chunmun, Daljeet and Shravan could ever think about when they first joined the pyramid scheme. They were slowly becoming irrelevant in front of these new comers and somewhere down the line, it needed to be stopped. When the highest achievers of Jumbolife visit Thailand, Shravan comes to know about Shrivastav’s fantasies about women and massage parlors. Plus, he gets addicted to the booze easily but whenever Goldy tries to calm him down, Shrivastav revolts; after all, it’s his first time in Thailand. Just because Shrivastav is drunk, Daljeet calls him and tells him the plans of building a private complex. On the other hand, Shravan instigates Shrivastav’s close associates in the team and causes a revolt which disrupts an important meeting. This causes a rift between Goldy and Shrivastav, but upon realizing what’s really happening,  they reunite. Both Goldy and Shrivastav want to escape poverty and they know that whatever they have achieved, it’s all because of their teamwork.

What Does Krittika Want From Satkaar?

Krittika is the one who has approached Satkaar in the first place and befriended him; she has flirted with him, went out on dates, claimed that she was his “half girlfriend” and even saved him from embarrassment. But, when she clearly knew that Satkaar likes her, she should not have made friends with Sarthak, his uncle’s son. She knew that Satkaar’s father is envious of Sarthak’s success and that’s why she hurt the former’s ego, making him work hard in life. Satkaar, who was also jealous of others making money, joined Jumbolife and became Goldy’s team member. In reality, Krittika has been motivating Satkaar, but she has unknowingly put him in difficult positions throughout the whole time. She is the one who deliberately fails to hide the love letter and her mother discovers it, leaving her father infuriated. Krittika does all these just so she can abuse Chunmun in front of an entire household, and her plan works out perfectly. Chunmun gets humiliated by Krittika when he goes in and makes a scene with Satkaar’s family. Krittika is taking revenge on Chunmun because years ago, he blackmailed her ex to break up with her. He also faced terrible humiliation, and Krittika has used Satkaar as a pawn to complete her revenge.

Why Does Satkaar and Sarthak Fight?

Satkaar’s parents were already stressed when they found out that Sarthak has got a high-paying internship in his college. Sarthak’s parents were really proud of their son while Satkaar faced humiliation from everyone. When Satkaar goes to Sarthak’s college to confront him about commenting under Krittika’s post, he gets to know that his internship is suspended unless he passes in some papers. Sarthak tells him to keep it a secret because if his parents know, they will tear him apart. Satkaar wants to sell the Jumbolife AI course to students in Sarthak’s college who have failed to get placements. The next day, when he arrives with his Jumbolife team, Krittika, her ex-boyfriend in the college, recognizes her. He knew all about Chunmun’s work in Winning Worldwide, which was a parent company of Jumbolife. Luckily, Krittika takes Sarthak away from college while his team gets beaten up by students after her ex tells them the reality of Jumbolife. When Sarthak confronts Satkaar at home for scamming others, their families fight. Satkaar spills out the truth about Sarthak’s grades, causing a huge fight between them.

What Made Chunmun Expose Jumbolife?

Chunmun has always been the most enthusiastic employee of Jumbolife but deep down, he always felt that the company was doing something very wrong. Actually, he exposed Jumbolife because he is jealous of what Goldy and Shrivastav have done. He may tell that he felt bad when his company seniors ordered him to convince the poor people into taking heavy loans from the bank, but is that really the truth? No, it’s not, because this is the same man who has openly scammed people with Winning Worldwide and Jumbolife is basically a renamed version of the same company.

How Does Goldy Find Out The Mastermind Behind The Scam?

Goldy sees his mobile shop assistant Rafique at a conference and learns that a bank has coerced them into taking a huge loan from them. This bank is endorsed by Jumbolife and that’s when Goldy understands that this is not a company, but a scam. He tracks down an employee of that bank, who claims that the bank is originally endorsed by a company named Dublews Private Limited, which is basically a shell company launched to erase the name of Jumbolife. Goldy realises all this when he sneaks into their factory and sees the workers rebranding Jumbolife products. Luckily, Goldy comes across the firm’s financial records from a dumpster where he sees the name of Suraj Ali, a man who apparently owns it.  Suraj turns out to be a disabled man in the nearby village; the company officials use his bank account to fill it with people’s money and get it cashed out by his wife. Goldy receives the ultimate shock of his life when a villager tells him about getting scammed by “Winning Worldwide” and gives him a photo of Randheer with Daljeet. Goldy understands that Randheer has been a scammer all along, who’s working for Jumbolife. However, Goldy fails to get his family’s money back when he confronts Randheer ; instead, he gets beaten up and the actor threatens him to leave him alone or his family will be jailed.

What Happens To Goldy And Shrivastav In The End?

Since Shrivastav’s face is on the front page of the company website and every promotional banner, he is the one who faces the wrath from the media. Shrivastav escapes from his house, leaving behind his wife and their son, Arpit; before leaving, he gives a burner phone number to her. The police tries to coerce Shrivastav’s family into giving up his location Days later, when Shrivastav calls, Arpit tries to get off the horse quickly, falls down, hits his head hard and dies. The police track the call and arrest Shrivastav. While staying in jail, Shrivastav slowly becomes a monk. Although the police let go of Goldy’s family, people from the locality rob the phone store, their house and take away everything from them. Six months later, when Goldy gets married to a woman named Renu, Tarun sir offers him a spot in his new team – apparently, he is opening a ‘new’ business. Goldy has already seen the bitter side of flying too high and he knows how this thing works, which is why he rejects Tarun. The man gives Goldy a gift and walks away without telling him anything more. Goldy goes to meet Shirvastav in jail but as the latter is a changed man now – he denies meeting him. But is it because he knows that Goldy has come to talk him into another pyramid scheme like Jumbolife? The truth is, Goldy may not have given up on restarting the pyramid scheme, which is evident by the smirk on his face in the end. This only shows that Goldy’s stint may not be over and I am sure TVF has enough material to make another season.
