‘Where else can you find two McDonald’s within a 10 min walk?’: Deputy Premier Dr Sim says commercial boom proves GPS governance delivers for Batu Kawa

KUCHING, June 17: Batu Kawa’s rapid rise is no accident but the direct result of political stability and unwavering support for the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) administration, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“Why is Batu Kawa progressive and prosperous? It is because everyone supported GPS. That is how I am able to implement these projects.

“If things here were chaotic or divided, I would not be able to focus on planning for the development and prosperity of the area,” he said at the inaugural Batu Kawa Zone Gawai Dayak celebration today.

Dr Sim who is also the Batu Kawa assemblyman reiterated the development details announced back on Feb 21, noting that the RM8 million Phase 2 of the Ang Cheng Ho Quarry Multipurpose Hall project is steadily approaching its tendering phase for night lighting and site upgrades.

He added that long-term development blueprints are already in motion to cater to urban expansion, including flagship sites like the Batu Kawa Riverbank Park and plans to construct a major shopping center modeled after VivaCity Megamall.

“By 2030, Batu Kawa will undoubtedly be highly developed and prosperous.

“Even now, where else can you find an area with two McDonald’s outlets located within a 10-minute walking distance? Property values have also skyrocketed with an acre of land in Batu Kawa now valued at nearly RM1 million,” he noted.

Organized by the local Iban Community Leaders and Village Chiefs (KMKK), the event marked the first time the Batu Kawa Iban community hosted the zone-level Gawai celebration.

Also present were Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai and others. — DayakDaily
