Pritam And Pedro Recap And Ending Explained: Who Has Kidnapped Vinny? And Why?

Created by Rajkumar Hirani, JioHotstar’s “Pritam And Pedro” is a journey of a cop and a tech genius where they forge an unlikely partnership to solve cases. As time goes by, their friendship grows but both of their troubling pasts come to haunt them. The show emphasizes serious issues like cybersecurity; cyberbullying and the dangers children can face if they spend too much time on the internet. Goa Police Inspector Pedro Gonsalves finds himself in a tough spot after four burqa wearing men rob an ATM machine. The sole witness to the scene is a visually impaired homeless guy who could only spot the four thieves driving away. Meanwhile, Pritam, a genius techie in disguise, walks into the police station to lodge a formal complaint about his grandfather’s tape recorder going missing. The widowed man used to listen to his late wife’s voice through that recorder and now that it’s gone, he has forgotten to smile. After Pritam gets dismissed by Constable Jayant, he gets arrested upon lashing out. When Pritam sees Pedro stressing about the ATM robbery, he offers help by tracking the thieves’ phones, thus leading to their arrest. Pedro thanks Pritam and promises to search for the lost tape recorder.

Pedro’s Career Crisis

When Sports Minister Srivastav’s wife Shradhha loses her phone, Pedro suspects that it must be an inside job. A thief will usually target a tourist’s phone, not the Minister’s wife who stays under tight security 24/7. While talking with Srivastav and Shradhha’s son Vinny, Pedro notices the boy’s changing face upon asking him about the phone. However, Srivastav gets offended upon finding out that Pedro wants to interrogate his eight-year old son. To appease Srivastav, Pedro buys a replacement phone and scapegoats a convict for the theft. Unbeknownst to Pedro, Srivastav has already recovered the original phone from Vinny’s room. When Pedro introduces the ‘thief,’ the Minister reveals the truth, humiliating Pedro for lying and forces his transfer to the Cyber Crime division.

The Partnership That Can Save Pedro’s Career

Pedro has spent his prime years chasing criminals and investigating cases on the field. He has been an indispensable part of the Goa Crime Branch whose on-field tactics were always commendable. However, being old-school, Pedro struggles to solve cases using the digital interface. Upon arriving at the Cyber Crime division, Pedro struggles to even log into his computer. Although his junior Shailee helps him with the basics, as days go by, Pedro grows frustrated sitting behind a monitor. Upon begging DIG Arvind to transfer him back to the Crime Branch, he agrees, provided Pedro solves three major cases. To make things easier for himself, Pedro calls Pritam to assist him.

Rescuing Carlos Lobo 

Goa Police Inspector Carlos Lobo’s wife Rene was having an affair with a guy named Nitin. Upon knowing this, Lobo grows furious and plans to end his own life after killing Rene and Nitin. To justify his drastic actions, Lobo writes a letter to news anchor Ana Goretti, revealing everything about Rene. While Lobo sneaks into the hotel where Rene and Nitin are staying, Pedro takes Pritam’s help to track the inspector’s phone. Upon arriving there, Pritam tries to stop Lobo but backs away when he threatens to shoot him. But Pedro convinces Lobo that murdering Rene will irreparably traumatise his son. Being a doting father, Lobo’s empathy wins and he stands down. Following this incident, Pedro earns Pritam’s respect for using his wit and bravery to stop a tragedy from happening. 

Pedro And Stacey Fall Out Over Their Dead Son

A few years ago, Pedro and his wife Stacey lost their only son, Leo, after the young boy killed his own life by jumping into a well. Pedro had promised Stacey to celebrate Leo’s birthday together, but he couldn’t because he was forced to prioritize Lobo’s case. When Pedro came back at night, Stacey, in her rage, blamed her husband for Leo’s accidental death as she believed that if Pedro had taught Leo how to swim, he wouldn’t have died. Pedro pinned Leo’s death on Stacey, claiming that she could have stopped him since she was home all day and the argument continued therefore breaking their already strained relationship, shortly after which Stacey left Pedro and stopped answering his calls.

Pedro Makes Srivastav Apologize 

As Vinny goes missing, DSP Arvind summons Pedro and his team to Srivastav’s house. Upon arriving there, Pedro leverages the investigating techniques he learnt from Pritam to find the kidnapper’s name. When he sends Jayant to catch him, the cop gets to know that the kidnapper’s SIM is registered to a dead woman’s name. Naturally, Srivastav grows furious and confronts Pedro for wasting time instead of investigating Vinny’s disappearance. This time, Pedro does not hold back from holding Srivastav accountable for deliberately discouraging him when Shradhha’s phone went missing. Upon realizing his mistake, Srivastav apologises to Pedro.

Who Has Kidnapped Vinny And Why?

Shradhha’s ex-boyfriend, who is a former convict and a bookie, wanted to get some money by blackmailing her with their intimate pictures. Upon getting scared, Shradhha wanted to pay him off but couldn’t think of a solid reason to request a huge sum from Srivastav. That’s why she agreed to let the bookie kidnap Vinny and get paid via a ransom. Things took a turn for the worse when the bookie, who didn’t want to get caught, sought help from a cyber genius named Martin. Since Leo was a gaming addict, Martin hacked Shradhha’s phone and installed an Augmented Reality game. Whenever Leo played that game by opening the phone camera, he took snapshots of the house and created a virtual map. Martin also coerced Vinny to play the notorious Blue Whale Challenge, through which the child was asked to complete missions such as stealing household items (which explains how Srivastav found Shradhha’s phone). Using his hacking skills to monitor CCTV locations, Martin guided Vinny through security blind spots, eventually manipulating him to hide in the rooftop water tank as a part of the Blue Whale challenge. Vinny followed his orders and hid himself inside the tank with basic supplies for survival. 

Pritam Outshines Martin But Fails To Hide His Past Life 

While everyone remains clueless about Vinny’s whereabouts, Pritam examines his laptop and discovers the blue whale game. While Pritam skims through the files in the device, you can see how Martin asserts dominance by tracking him through the webcam. He threatens everyone to stop seeking help from the cops and mocks Pritam for trying to track his location. After Martin calls on Shradhha’s phone and talks with Pritam, he easily guesses the location by tallying the phone’s distance with wifi signals with the virtual map of the room. But soon, Pritam accurately guesses Martin’s methods and mocks him for using parlor tricks. Before Martin hangs up, he shocks Pritam by calling him Kabir, which is his real name. 

Before Kabir became Pritam, he was still in college, tired of getting insulted by Professor Joe for being late in class. Despite his chronic tardiness, a young Kabir’s pride got wounded after Joe mocked him in front of his batchmates. Fueled by revenge, Kabir hacked into Joe’s mailbox and leaked intimate images from his hookup. Soon, the whole college turned against Joe and he was shocked to see his personal images on the classroom board. Back at home, Joe’s heartbroken wife Nina avoided talking to him. Unable to handle it anymore, Joe committed suicide by jumping from the lighthouse. Following that incident, Kabir changed his name to Pritam and erased his digital footprints from everywhere. Although almost everyone forgot his identity, Joe’s son Martin did not. He orchestrated an extensive revenge saga, where he wanted Kabir to have the same tragic fate as his father. 

Pedro Gets Hit By A Grave Realization 

While Pritam was explaining the rules of the Blue Whale Challenge, Pedro realized Leo was addicted to it. When Leo was still alive, Pedro often noticed misplaced household stuff and one day, he came across a burnt letter box. Desperate to complete another challenge, Leo even killed the neighbor’s cat and froze it inside Pedro’s refrigerator. Upon returning home and sitting alone on the porch, Pedro realizes with horror that Leo’s final task was to kill himself by drowning. Since he has always been a busy cop, Pedro could not teach Leo how to swim and he still regrets that. Visibly devastated, Pedro finally stops holding back and breaks down in tears. However, when he realizes that he must save Vinny’s life, Pedro ultimately pulls himself together.

How Does Pritam And Pedro Track Martin And Vinny?

A seasoned hacker like Martin knows how to keep himself untraceable and the only way to track him is by planting a GPS on him. Pritam plans to do it by hiding a mobile mainframe inside the bag of ransom money he is supposed to give Martin. Upon meeting Pritam, Martin threatens him to jump from the lighthouse or give up on Vinny. He confronts Pritam for pushing his father to death and knocks him out before leaving the scene by strapping a spy watch on his wrist. When Pritam regains consciousness, he runs back to Pedro – they track down Martin’s location in a hostel but fail to catch him red-handed. Although Martin is already on the run by stealing a resident’s car, Pritam tracks his approximate location when the highway toll booth scans the number plate. By the time Pedro arrives at the car’s location, he finds it empty and throws Pritam’s watch away, guessing that Martin must have been eavesdropping through it. 

Pritam finally understands that Martin may have been waiting at the lighthouse and leads Pedro to the location. But before climbing to the top, Pritam suddenly feels that Martin never had Vinny and all the things that the young boy stole – noodles, oxygen cylinder, phone – are basic survival items. With his advice, Pedro instructs constable Dattatrey, who’s stationed at Srivastav’s residence, to search the water tank on the roof. To everyone’s surprise, Dattatrey finds that Vinny has been hiding inside the tank all along and survived by having noodles. 

Pritam’s Decision To Let Martin Run Free

Upon seeing Pritam arrive at the lighthouse, Martin uses all his strength to push him off the top; after years of waiting, he has finally got the chance to avenge Joe’s death. Pritam viciously fights back and pins Martin to the ground after Pedro informs him that Vinny is found. When Pedro arrives, Pritam acts as if Martin is a complete stranger and convinces that he mistakenly started the fight, thinking that he was that mastermind hacker. While you may argue that Martin deserves jail time, think about how he became a criminal in the first place. Martin lived a normal life, aspiring to become a cybersecurity expert until Pritam shattered his family, albeit unintentionally. Realizing the impact of his past actions that destroyed Martin’s family, Pritam chooses mercy over justice. Later, sitting by Joe’s father’s grave, Martin realizes the dangers of being vengeful and apologizes to Shradhha before returning her money. 

What Happens To Pritam And Pedro In The End?

Since Pedro failed to arrest Martin, he cannot claim the credit for rescuing Vinny. He also cannot expose the bookie because that will compromise Srivastav and Shradhha’s public image. So Dattatrey steals all the credit for solving Vinny’s disappearance and Pedro misses his chance to get back to the Crime Division. Despite losing their hard-earned credit, Pritam and Pedro team up for one last mission – clearing Shradhha’s past. Pritam, who’s tempted to turn this scandal into a laughingstock, makes three copies of those images. In two of the photos, Pritam plasters Virendra Sehwag and Sanjay Dutt’s faces, making the three of them look photoshopping-gone-wrong. Pedro seeks help from Ana Goretti to publicly dismiss the bookie’s plan by using those images to spread awareness against AI-morphing. Growing fond of Pedro, Pritam helps him to reconcile with Stacey. He manipulates Pedro into recording a song, one similar to his grandmother’s, and sends it to Stacey as an apology. Upon receiving the message, Stacey forgives Pedro while pointing out a grave mistake in the tune of that song. It turns out that Stacey was a student of Pritam’s grandmother – when she sends a recording of the song in her own voice, his grandfather feels overjoyed. He is probably living his last few years and listening to the tune makes him reminisce about the golden days he spent with his wife.
