Drishyam 3 Ending Explained And Movie Recap: How Does Georgekutty Save His Family From Sahadevan?

Director Jeethu Joseph’s “Drishyam 3” picks up four years after the events of the second film, where Georgekutty escaped prison by outsmarting IG Thomas Bastin. He wrote a story that ran similar to how he hid Varun’s remains and accused the police of planting evidence themselves and using his plot to frame him. Props must be given to Georgekutty because through all these years, he is still sleeping peacefully and I am now worried about his character getting caught in the next sequel. Anyway, let’s dive into the plot first before I dissect the film for you. In “Drishyam 3,” Georgekutty doesn’t just own a theatre, but he is a successful producer of “Drishyam,” the movie that follows a similar story to Varun’s case. While Georgekutty enjoys his movie’s success, distribution offers come pouring in and the film’s premiere turns out to be a success. Georgekutty strangely encounters two reporters, Rony and Yami, who somehow manage to breach the security and step inside to question them about Varun’s murder case. It causes Anju – who’s under psychologist Ranjini’s observation – to get flashbacks of her traumatic past.

Why Is Georgekutty Keeping His Children In The Dark?

Georgekutty keeps his family in the dark regarding how he disposed off Varun’s remains because he is aware of the lengths to which police can torture someone to force out a confession. Rani, Anju and Anu don’t know that he swapped Varun’s remains with a skeleton from the graveyard and destroyed the real evidence using acid. That’s why the two sisters are panicking, thinking that sooner or later, the police will dig up Varun’s remains somewhere else. They have also come across reports online that suggest Geetha is depressed and has lost her sanity, which further fuels their emotions. Fortunately, Advocate Renuka assures Georgekutty that even if the police finds an iota of circumstantial evidence, they still will have a hard time connecting that back to him. 

What Does Sahadevan Want?

I had a hunch that the reporters were up to something when they snuck into Georgekutty’s theatre and asked about Varun’s murder case out of nowhere. No ordinary reporter would ask such a question on the premiere of Georgekutty’s movie and my suspicion proved to be on point when Yami revealed herself as Sahadevan’s daughter. Ever since Sahadevan lost his job following Anu and Anju’s testimony, he had gone blind for revenge. While fate made him do odd jobs for some extra money, Sahadevan grew restless to take revenge by making Georgekutty’s family suffer. Once Prabhakar became vengeful upon seeing Geetha’s mental state, he secretly teamed up with Sahadevan.

Georgekutty covers his tracks extremely well and he is very vigilant – that’s why Sahadevan sends Yami and Rony to gather leads about the case. They approach Sabu – the mole who wired Georgekutty’s house for information and also question Jose – who saw Georgekutty walk out of the police station construction site after burying the evidence. Yami follows Shreya, grave digger Pathrose’s daughter (Georgekutty befriended him and he dug up someone else’s skeleton from the parish cemetery) and locates her house on the border of the reserve forest. Soon, they come to realize that although Georgekutty’s tower location showed him spending hours in this forest, IG Thomas Bastin ruled it out, thinking of it as an intentional distraction. However, Sahadevan thinks something is buried below Shreya’s residence since Georgekutty bought the plot and gifted it to Pathrose. Soon, Sahadevan forces Pathrose to confess his guilt and pressures Dr. Ranjini to modify Anju’s evaluation report, labeling the girl as mentally unstable. 

Why Is Georgekutty Helping Others?

While Sahadevan plots Georgekutty’s downfall, we can see the latter helping other people whenever he has some time. If you think this is an attempt to gain virtue, you are not looking at it from his perspective. Georgekutty knows the value of money and has not forgotten his days of struggle. Now that he is rich and famous, he plans on helping others out as much as he can. Once he learns that former investigator Suresh Babu is worried about his son’s employment, he lands the young man a job by talking with Director Aneesh Raj. Although Jose testified against Georgekutty in court and things could have turned worse in no time, he still gets forgiven by him. He buys Jose an oven because as an ex-convict like him, who won’t get a job, must run his own business to earn his daily bread.

Why Is Anju Losing Marriage Proposals?

When Georgekutty faced trials after the police recovered remains below the police station, he did everything in his power to save his family from danger.  That being said, he forgot to take care of Rajan – the security guard of the morgue whom he exploited to swap Varun’s remains – resulting in him losing his job. From Georgekutty’s perspective, it was his priority to take care of his family but was it okay to not even offer Rajan some legal or financial aid? After that incident, Rajan lost job, could not fulfill his children’s educational needs and his daughter lost her voice while trying to kill herself. And all Georgekutty did was provide Rajan a side role in his movie. When I consider all that, Rajan and his wife Shanthi’s rage is valid, at least from their perspective. Both of them join hands with Sahadevan and whenever a family sends Anju a marriage proposal, they anonymously call and spill exaggerated details about her mental state. 

How Is Sahadevan Planning To Frame Georgekutty?

Sahadevan and Prabhakar request Thomas to reopen the case but it turns out that the High Court is protecting Georgekutty’s family. Unless there’s an emergency hearing and the public prosecutor allows Thomas, he cannot investigate further. The police cannot investigate the reserve forest area either, because there’s an ongoing case regarding the property. The only way to take revenge on Georgekutty is playing by his rules and this is exactly what Sahadevan wants. Years ago, Sahadevan helped a guy named Avira, steer away from trouble when his business was at a loss. Sahadevan asks Avira to return his favor by marrying Anju because he wants to recreate the same murder that Georgekutty committed. According to the plan, on the wedding night, Avira will take Anju to a resort and leave after intoxicating her. Sahadevan will then spill fake blood on Anju, break things around to stage a scuffle and plant a knife in her hand. Although Prabhakar thinks Avira will be safe, Sahadevan wants to kill and bury him in Georgekutty’s farmland. Sahadevan has already dug a hole in Georgekutty’s backyard and filmed him while he was filling it back in. Once Avira’s remains are found, Thomas will charge Anju for killing the guy out of sexual aversion and Georgekutty will be jailed because the clip will make it seem as if he is hiding the evidence.

Why Does Georgekutty Walk Into Sahadevan’s Trap?

Georgekutty has delayed Anju’s marriage to give her space because she still needs time to heal from the trauma. However, when matchmaker Mathayichan brings a marriage proposal where the guy, Avira, is settled in Dubai, Georgekutty doesn’t think twice because it’s the perfect opportunity to keep Anju miles away from trouble. Any caring father would have done the same thing if they were in Georgekutty’s shoes but I wish he knew how twisted Mathayichan’s idea was. All that time, he was plotting with Sahadevan to coerce Georgekutty into accepting Avira as his son-in-law. Once Georgekutty’s family agrees to the marriage and the wedding day arrives, Sahadevan goes forward with his grand plan.

How Does Georgekutty Save His Family From Sahadevan?

On the wedding night, everything goes according to plan; to add some flair to it, Sahadevan uses theatrics to call and scare Georgekutty. Although Georgekutty leaves for the resort, things get interesting when we see that he has already seen it coming. He walks into the resort, slashes Anju’s arm, and tells her to play unconscious till the police arrive to take her to the hospital. When Sahadevan arrives at Georgekutty’s home with Avira, Jose forces a confession out of him. Avira escapes using this as a distraction and lashes out on Prabhakar for almost costing his life. Not even Thomas can proceed against Georgekutty now, because Sahadevan has exposed his involvement in the confession. Georgekutty follows Renuka’s advice in accepting some legal charges and promises to kill Prabhakar if he plans on harming his family ever again. But, do you think Prabhakar will ever stop or next time, Geetha will be the one to reopen this case?
