Virtual IOP For Teen OCD & Anxiety: Flexible Mental Health Program Expanded

California Teen Center, available at 530-531-8754, is now offering structured adolescent mental health care services for teens with OCD through its expanded intensive outpatient program.

— California Teen Center has expanded access to its specialized OCD treatments for teenagers, offering both in-person and virtual IOP programs designed specifically for adolescents ages 12 to 17 who need a higher level of support than traditional weekly therapy provides without disrupting their normal lives.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety frequently occur together during adolescence, making assessment and treatment more complex than many families initially expect. Approximately 2% of teens ages 12 to 17 experience OCD in a given year, while research published in PubMed Central shows that up to 60.5% of young people diagnosed with OCD also have a co-occurring anxiety disorder. California Teen Center says recognizing this overlap is an important step toward identifying the level of care that best matches a teenager’s needs.

The center explains that when OCD and anxiety reinforce one another, symptoms can interfere with school attendance, social relationships, and everyday functioning. For some adolescents, a structured Intensive Outpatient Program provides additional therapeutic support while allowing them to continue living at home and attending school. Sessions are scheduled after school, with the same evidence-based approach also available through secure telehealth for families outside the Yuba City area.

“When OCD and anxiety occur together, treatment works best when both conditions are considered as part of the same clinical picture,” a California Teen Center representative said. “Expanding virtual access allows more families across California to receive specialized adolescent care without the challenges of extended travel or relocating for treatment.”

Treatment begins with a confidential clinical assessment to determine whether an Intensive Outpatient Program is the appropriate level of care. Based on each teen’s needs, care may incorporate evidence-based therapies, family involvement, psychiatric oversight, and academic coordination, creating an individualized treatment plan that supports progress across home, school, and family life.

California Teen Center provides mental health treatment exclusively for adolescents ages 12 to 17 through a continuum of care that includes outpatient therapy, Teen IOP, Partial Hospitalization (PHP), and step-down support. The DHCS-licensed and Joint Commission-accredited center also assists families with insurance verification and works with major providers, including Anthem, Blue Shield of California, Carelon, and Aetna.
