Range Rover GT Teased: New Electric SUV Breaks The Mold

JLR has officially pulled back the curtain on its newest model line, teasing the Range Rover GT.

Joining as the fifth member of the luxury lineup alongside the flagship Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Velar, and Evoque, the new GT departs from conventional SUV design cues. Positioned explicitly as a luxury grand tourer rather than an upright off-roader, it stands as the very first all-electric Range Rover built on the brand’s new Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) platform.

“The Most Car-Like Range Rover Ever Created”

Range Rover describes the GT as a vehicle that redefines traditional long-distance driving by combining a sleek, low-slung, coupe-like silhouette with genuine four-wheel-drive capability.

“The Range Rover GT will redefine the grand-touring segment with the ability to deliver beautiful and engaging GT poise, proportions and long-distance refinement while offering capabilities no conventional GT can match,” stated the company. “We have spent the last few years working obsessively on the fundamentals of the GT formula, reinterpreted in a sophisticated, uniquely Range Rover way. The result is the most car-like, yet unmistakably capable, Range Rover ever created.”

Industry reports indicate that while the vehicle sits lower than a Porsche Macan EV, its length rivals that of the Range Rover Sport. Built upon an 800-volt electrical architecture, it utilizes a single-layer battery pack integrated into the floor, allowing for a natural seating position and a lower roofline without compromising interior passenger headroom.

A Sanctuary of Calm: Inside the Minimalist Cabin

Range Rover has provided a look inside the GT’s interior, showcasing a cabin engineered as a “sanctuary of calm” with a heavy emphasis on reducing visual clutter and acoustic cabin noise.

By eliminating physical buttons and shifting controls to climate touch interfaces and voice commands, the cabin offers a minimalist, distraction-free environment.

All-Terrain Capability and Global Testing

Despite its lower stance, the Range Rover GT retains full all-terrain capability. Prototype vehicles are currently undergoing final on-road validation tests globally, wearing a custom camouflage wrap inspired by the topographical contours surrounding Gaydon in the UK.

Initially launching as a pure battery-electric vehicle (BEV), Range Rover has confirmed that a hybrid powertrain option will also join the model range later in its lifecycle. Production is scheduled to take place at JLR’s Halewood facility in the UK. Full technical specifications, including battery capacity, electric range, and pricing, will be announced later this year.
