'Love In Slow Motion' Movie Ending Explained & Summary: Does Haya Finally Accept Jawad’s Love?

Love in Slow Motion is a 2026 Arabic romantic comedy film streaming on Netflix that plays on the age-old trope of two best friends struggling to admit their burgeoning romantic feelings for each other. Deep down, Haya has feelings for her childhood best friend, Jawad, but whenever he tries to approach her with a proposal, she slinks out of the situation out of fear of destroying the beautiful friendship that they have. Overall, Love in Slow Motion is exactly how you’d expect it to be, with very one-dimensional characters and an extremely predictable plot.

Spoiler Alert

What is the movie about?

Love in Slow Motion begins at a hospital where best friends Jawad and Haya look on inside the nursery, with love and adoration in their eyes. Both of them are extremely fond of babies, and while they are now here at the hospital to accompany Haya’s pregnant sister, Dalal, for a routine check-up, both want to become parents sometime in the future. Haya makes a wish right then and there that she soon gets a husband with whom she can have a baby, and there is immediately an awkward moment between her and Jawad. It is evident that the two have romantic feelings for each other, and Jawad has made a few indirect attempts to express his own, but they still go around as best friends who have known each other since childhood, and nothing else.

Haya’s aunt, Rajaa, who is her guardian now since the passing of both her parents, constantly reminds her of her ticking biological clock, for the protagonist is 34, and is therefore considered too old to still be single. Rajaa also pokes fun at the fact that Haya’s younger sister has not just found herself a husband, but is now about to give birth in a few months’ time, to create pressure on her, but she remains unmoved. Haya prioritizes herself and her professional career as an architect over the societal or familial pressure to marry, and so she wants to be with someone who would genuinely love her and whom she would have feelings for as well.

An opportunity walks right up to her when Jawad finally expresses himself after a significant development in his acting career. A model and aspiring actor, Jawad finally signs a deal for a new film, the shooting of which will take place in the Maldives, and he asks Haya to accompany him on the work trip. While doing so, he tells Haya that she really means a lot to him, and directly professes his love for her, only for her to turn him down. Despite herself having feelings for Jawad, Haya tells him that they should never be together, as they are friends and nothing more. Jawad is irritated, but he goes along with Haya’s plan, of the two of them dating each other’s friends, and it goes terribly for both. Finally, as Jawad comes home from the Maldives just for a day, to celebrate Haya’s birthday, he brings his new friend and co-actor from the film, Zeina, along with him. This finally starts to make Haya jealous, and she accepts her true feelings for her best friend, although it seems to be a bit too late for her to make a move.

How does Haya try to get Jawad to break up?

While Haya had already accepted how much Jawad meant to her after she turned him down, her timing and luck could not have been worse, as he left the country right afterwards. Despite having tried to reach him via calls and messages numerous times, Haya could not express her feelings to Jawad and had to wait. By the time she got to see him next, he already had Zeina with him, and while she could have still admitted her feelings then, she also did not want to hurt Jawad in any way. Haya felt that her best friend could have been really hurt by her rejection, and had subsequently found a girlfriend to move on from the incident, and so she did not say anything to him right away.

However, Haya does not have a good feeling about Zeina, and despite everything she says to Jawad, she actually does not approve of the actress as her best friend’s partner. She attends a shoot where Jawad and Zeina are performing together, and the latter’s clingy and almost fake show of love is noticed by not just Haya, but others on the set as well. Haya even overhears two crew members discuss how Zeina must only be using Jawad for social and financial security, and this convinces her that she must do something to save her friend from settling for the wrong woman. Thus, Haya starts her own investigation into the actress and her personality, with the intention of trying to get Jawad to break up with her.

Haya realizes that Zeina knows very little about her boyfriend, like when Zeina claims that Jawad loves chamomile tea, even though he actually despises it. When the actors have their first TV interview together, Zeina again acts too clingy and desperate, as is her personality. After the interview, Haya, who was also in attendance at the studio, tries to point out his girlfriend’s faults to him, but Jawad dismisses her concerns, stating that he likes Zeina because of how easy-going and honest she is. This is clearly a dig at Haya, as Jawad says that his favorite thing about Zeina is how she is so expressive about her feelings and never shies away from sharing them. But still determined to get the couple to break up, Haya decides to take things up a notch, especially when Jawad starts asking her for advice. When he is looking to buy Zeina a gift, Haya advises him to get her a pet cat, knowing all too well that she absolutely hates cats. As Jawad tries to set up a movie date with his girlfriend, Haya tells him to take Zeina to a horror film, particularly because the actress is terrified of the genre. From suggesting football matches to eating at roadside food trucks, every suggestion that Haya gives Jawad is specifically intended to make the couple break up. But much to her surprise and displeasure, Zeina ends up liking all the gifts and surprise dates, and even posts about them on her social media. It appears as if she has suddenly started enjoying all the things she once used to hate, only because they are part of surprises planned by him or gifts that he has brought her.

Why does Haya advise Jawad to get back together with his girlfriend?

Haya’s best efforts to get Jawad to break up with Zeina fail, and he shares about his enthusiasm to propose to his girlfriend, which is even worse news to the protagonist. But this entire situation takes a turn because of Zeina herself, as the actress jumps the gun and posts a video on her social media showing off a ring that Jawad has apparently given her while proposing. In reality, Jawad had not yet proposed, but Zeina wanted to ensure that he would never leave her, and so had posted a video with a fake proposal ring. Her plan was to tell the world about their relationship through her social media, and she then also deletes the video, making it seem as if she had accidentally put it up. But as Haya points out, this is just a cheap trick used by Zeina, who knew that thousands of people would watch her video and share the news even if it was put up for just a few minutes and then taken down.

Zeina simply wanted to put pressure on Jawad to propose to her at the earliest, and she believed that he would surely do it once the media started reporting on how they were apparently already engaged. This fiasco makes Jawad realize his girlfriend’s true intentions, and he decides to break up with her. He informs Haya of the same, essentially seeking her advice on the matter, and the news momentarily brings her joy as well, as she can finally express her feelings to her best friend and also protect him from ‘greedy’ women like Zeina. However, when she meets Jawad later on, Haya advises him to forgive Zeina and give their relationship another chance. Despite being very angry at his girlfriend at first, Jawad quickly accepts his best friend’s advice and goes ahead and mends his relationship with Zeina.

Haya’s sister and aunt are absolutely shocked by her having brought the couple back together despite having true feelings for Jawad. Haya does not really explain herself, but it is evident that she had only thought of Jawad and his love for Zeina while giving this piece of advice. No matter how much Haya desires to be with Jawad, his happiness is what’s most important to her. While the break-up could have ensured that she would finally get to be with the love of her life, it could have also led to Jawad being heartbroken and emotionally shattered, which Haya did not want at any cost. Despite feeling that Zeina was not the right person to be with Jawad, Haya ends up bringing the couple back together, only with one possibility in mind—that Jawad genuinely loves Zeina and wants to be with her.

What is the next obstacle in the protagonist’s way?

To tackle the possibility that she might not find a partner in time, Haya decides to have her eggs frozen so that she can get pregnant anytime later on. During the difficult and painful surgery, Jawad is the only person she can think of and yearn for, and much to her relief, he turns up at the hospital to support her. As Haya is too nervous, the doctors ask her to go through the procedure some other day, and she soon decides to come clean about her feelings to Jawad no matter what. Thus, she reaches the set where his film is being shot and patiently waits for him to leave his vanity van, which is when she puts on a set of headphones and ends up hearing all that Jawad says inside his vanity van, through the microphone he had forgotten to switch off.

Turns out, the entire deal about Jawad falling in love with Zeina and wanting to marry her had been fake, and part of an elaborate plan hatched by Dalal and Rajaa. The sister and aunt had found out about how Haya genuinely loved Jawad, and wanted to ensure that she would confess her feelings to him. They felt it would be best to make Haya jealous, by planting a fake girlfriend in Jawad’s life, so that she would feel in a hurry to express herself. But what they had not predicted was that the protagonist would put her best friend’s feelings before her own, and that she would convince Jawad to get back together with Zeina following their fake break up.

Haya now finds out about all this, and she is hurt and disappointed beyond limits. She feels let down by the fact that Jawad had chosen to sell her a lie just so she would express her feelings. What she clearly seems to miss is the fact that he had tried all ways to get her to accept his proposal multiple times in the past, and so when Dalal and Rajaa came to him with this ludicrous but promising plan, Jawad agreed to play along. Nonetheless, Haya refuses to talk to Jawad for months, and she is also disappointed at her sister and aunt’s behavior. This ends up becoming the biggest obstacle in her romantic life, and it seems like Haya will never get back to being friends with Jawad.

Does Haya finally accept Jawad’s love?

But all things come to a happy end when Jawad’s film is about to premiere, and Haya does not seem to be willing to attend. Years earlier, when the two were close friends in college, Jawad had promised to invite Haya as his first guest on the day of the premiere of his first film. Now, he does not want to attend the premiere even, as he realizes that Haya is not going to show up. The date of the premiere also coincides with Haya’s birthday, but she does not feel like celebrating the occasion without her beloved best friend. Ultimately, Haya decides to go to the film premiere, but then returns home after not being able to find Jawad there. The actor had left his premiere and come to Haya’s home in the hopes of apologizing to her and mending their relationship. Thus, as the two characters finally meet after all this while, they talk and clear things out, before attending the film premiere together. Thus, at the end of Love in Slow Motion, Jawad and Haya are indeed together, and after a few years of marriage, they have a daughter together as well, marking a very happy ending to the tale.
