Garmin is entering the screen-free fitness band category, going up directly against Whoop, the Fitbit Air, and smaller players like the Polar Loop and Amazfit Helio Strap. The Cirqa launches in Malaysia on 21 August at RM899, positioning it as one of the pricier options in a category built around being forgettable during the day and informative afterward.
One Body, Four StrapsThere’s a single Cirqa unit, black by default, paired with interchangeable fabric straps in four colours, black, a blue Garmin calls Captain, French Gray, and Mauve. Straps come in two sizes and fasten with a velcro-style closure rather than a traditional clasp, letting the fit adjust more precisely than a fixed buckle allows.
Chunkier Than The Fitbit AirThe Cirqa pod measures 27 by 47 by 9mm and weighs roughly 15 grams on its own, closer to 21 grams once the wristband is attached.
The S/M strap fits wrist circumferences between 120mm and 200mm, while L/XL covers 145mm to 240mm. The strap runs 24mm wide, not quite covering the 27mm central unit, putting it roughly in line with Whoop’s band width and considerably bulkier than the Fitbit Air’s slim 18mm strap.
Underneath the fabric strap sits a case built from fibre-reinforced polymer, the same material Garmin uses across most of its watch lineup, and the whole unit carries a 5ATM water resistance rating, safe for swimming down to 50 metres, though not built for diving.
Garmin’s Gen 4 optical sensor handles the core readings here, including Pulse Ox for blood oxygen saturation and nightly skin temperature tracking. Cirqa monitors heart rate continuously, along with heart rate variability, respiration rate and stress, while also letting users manually log habits like hydration and caffeine intake through the Connect app rather than measuring them directly off the wrist.
All of that feeds into Garmin’s usual recovery metrics, Body Battery, sleep score, a dedicated sleep coach and training readiness, alongside women’s health tracking that uses overnight skin temperature data to support menstrual cycle and pregnancy tracking.
On the activity side, Cirqa recognises more than 80 sport profiles, running, cycling, swimming, yoga and strength training among them, with automatic detection backing up a manual side-button start. Connectivity runs through both Bluetooth and ANT+, the latter letting Cirqa broadcast heart rate directly to gym equipment or a bike computer, the same trick used across Garmin’s regular watch lineup.
None of the core health or fitness tracking requires a subscription, everything syncs free through Garmin Connect, with Garmin Connect+ sitting alongside as an optional upgrade for extras like guided coaching and advanced insights.
A Physical Button, Which Is Rarer Than It SoundsMost trackers in this category skip physical controls entirely. Cirqa’s single side button manually starts a favourite activity set up in advance through the Connect app, on top of the automatic detection already covering most common workouts.
Familiar Sensors, Not Garmin’s BestThe sensor array on Cirqa’s underside broadly matches what’s used in Garmin’s more affordable watches, like the Forerunner 170, rather than the more elaborate setup found in flagship models like the Fenix 8. Two LED elements plus four surrounding light sensors handle the core readings, fewer than the eight-LED arrays in Garmin’s top-tier watches, though sufficient for the metrics Cirqa is built around.
Ten Days Between ChargesBattery life sits at 10 days, middling for the category, Whoop’s latest model claims up to 14, while others sit closer to a week. Charging uses the same proprietary connector found across most of Garmin’s wearable lineup.
GPS Without Needing Its Own ChipCirqa supports Connected GPS, pulling location data from a paired phone to improve pace and distance accuracy during runs, and generating route maps for logged activities. It can also broadcast heart rate to compatible gym equipment or platforms like Zwift, a feature not universal across screen-free competitors.
No Subscription RequiredRM899 covers the device outright, no ongoing fees attached, a deliberate contrast to Whoop’s subscription model. Garmin Connect+ unlocks extras beyond what’s already covered above, a workout library, guided breathing exercises and location sharing through LiveTrack, features that arguably suit a full Garmin watch better than a screen-free band built around staying out of the way.
Mostly Plastic, By DesignCirqa isn’t designed to look premium, but to be light, weighing 14.8 grams for the module alone, heavier than the Fitbit Air’s 5.2 grams but lighter than a Whoop 5.0.
Malaysia Pricing And Where To Buy ItThe Malaysian launch is set for 21 August at RM899, with accessory straps and an upper-arm band variant sold separately starting from around RM219 to RM269, depending on retailer. Garmin has confirmed availability through Garmin.com.my, Shopee, Lazada, AECO e-store, Garmin brand stores, and authorised retailers nationwide.
