Galaxy Z Fold 8's wide new design is reportedly selling faster than Samsung expected

Samsung reportedly increased Galaxy Z Fold 8 production prior to launch, but it appears the smaller foldable model is still selling much faster during pre-order than the company anticipated. It already looks like certain models are getting delayed due to low stock.

Samsung seemingly expected to sell more of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 than the larger and more expensive Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. A report earlier this month suggested the company set aside 2.8 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 8, where the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra only tallied 2 million units.

Even with a larger supply, Samsung is reportedly running low on Galaxy Z Fold 8 stock during the pre-order period. A leak courtesy of Lanzuk on Naver claims sales for the shorter foldable are exceeding Samsung’s estimates. Unit allocation is becoming an issue, and there’s a danger of it going out of stock soon in some regions, like South Korea, according to a separate post by @IceUniverse on Twitter/X.

Just today, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in its web-exclusive color, “Pistachio”, seemed to be available to pre-order again after it was temporarily blocked by Samsung’s website. The phone no longer errors out in the checkout cart, but it’s now delayed until October.

Carriers are also reportedly having issues. The leak states that certain colors won’t last beyond the second or third week of August. The second week happens to be when Samsung’s pre-order period comes to a close. In essence, some colors won’t last the pre-order period.

There doesn’t seem to be any concern for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Samsung’s supply is “ample,” according to the report. If the information holds true, it would suggest users are gravitating towards the Fold 8’s wider aspect ratio and more compact profile.

We’ve been down this road before, but not with a device that’s as thin as the Galaxy Z Fold 8. It might be a real winner for users who want a foldable without the height that Samsung has traditionally offered.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra are currently available for pre-order until August 7.
