BN submits three names for MB candidates to Negeri Sembilan Yang di-Pertuan Besar – Zahid

SEREMBAN – Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has submitted three names for the post of Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar to the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir. 

"We have put forward three names to Tuanku, leaving it to his discretion and his right to choose the new Menteri Besar candidate.

"Barisan Nasional has won 18 seats and PN seven, totalling 25 seats. With Tuanku's consent, the BN and PN governments will form a new government in Negeri Sembilan," he said.

Asked by reporters whether the former Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun needed to vacate his official residence immediately, given reports of people storming the house, Zahid said this should not have happened and called for patience.

"That should not have happened. Give some time, give time to Tok Min (Aminuddin). The new Menteri Besar may take his oath of office as soon as possible and they are all our friends.

"We need to have some compassion and observe the etiquette we use to respect our friends," he said.

Negeri Sembilan polls was held on Aug 1. A total of 103 candidates contested, including Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

Unlike previous elections, PH broke from its unity-government arrangement with BN and contested all 36 seats solo, while BN and PN reached a separate seat-sharing pact, with BN contesting 25 seats and PN contesting 11.

Bersatu broke away from the PN pact to contest under its own logo in 24 seats. Other parties in the fray included PSM, Parti Orang Asli Malaysia, Gerakan and Parti Rakyat India Malaysia (MIPP).

PH had governed the state since 2018 and held 17 of 36 seats going into the dissolution.

BN won 18 seats, PN seven, giving the two coalitions a combined 25-seat, two-thirds majority.

PH won 11 seats – nine under DAP, two under PKR – losing government.
