'My Life With The Walter Boys' Season 3 Ending Explained: Is Jackie Leaving Silver Falls?

The ending of My Life With The Walter Boys season 3 is as frustrating as getting the wrong cake order for your birthday. The finale is definitely entertaining, but it leaves you wondering why we have to go through the same old routine yet again. The idea that Jackie would move on from one man to another so quick and easy is quite contradictory to her Type A personality. She shouldn’t be jumping from one guy to another just to get over her heartbreak; it feels all wrong, especially after she showed us how resilient she is with how she handled the abrupt break-up with Cole. I’m honestly disappointed she didn’t jump into it further and really ask him what was wrong, because that’s the Jackie we know, right? Anyway, I guess there’s no point really pondering over any of these details. With that said, let’s jump straight to the discussion.

What Happens To Cole? 

Season 3’s ending sees Cole going head-to-head, not by his choice, with Danvers, who has it out for him because Cole chose to go find Jackie instead of finishing his race. This made Danvers angry, because it means he doesn’t get his prize money; he is, of course, very certain that he would’ve won had they competed. Cole doesn’t want to fight, nor does he want to have this impromptu race on the streets. It’s clear Danvers wants him out because he’s too much of a threat to his position, especially as a newcomer. The rivalry isn’t that prominent throughout the show, because Cole competes with the guy only once before taking up street racing, that too because he wants to do something wack and prove everyone who judges him right. Throughout the season, everyone who finds out about Cole and Jackie always comes to the conclusion that Cole isn’t good enough for her, except for his own parents. Initially, Cole doesn’t feel affected by these comments, especially coming from people who don’t know him – Uncle Richard and Eliot, the latter of whom is totally jealous. However, it weighs down on him when the things they’re saying about Jackie’s switch up come true. 

Jackie hosts a party with underage drinking and nearly gets arrested, something that nobody seems to associate with the fact that she’s getting older and wants to try new things. Instead, they just see it as her biggest slip-up. Her grades drop too, and she’s very all over the place, but the distraction isn’t Cole alone; it’s her need to not be perfect anymore. Of course, she feels comfortable enough to do this while with Cole because she expects no judgement from him. However, to Cole, it proves Eliot right, and he’s too reckless for someone like Jackie, who already had her whole life planned out.  As it goes with men, instead of trusting that Jackie is smart and knows exactly what she’s gotten into, Cole decides not to tell her what the people are saying, and keeps things to himself, becoming a prick to her and breaking up. This leaves Cole devastated enough to want to leave home and move in with his bud, Dylan. But seeing that Cole’s chosen to become reckless with his life, Dylan kicks him out and even takes his car rights away just to keep him safe. It’s actually really nice of Dylan to do that and knock some sense into him. Only, the mess-up happens anyway because Danvers is the guy everyone believes Cole to be for real. Sigh. Now, I don’t think Cole’s dead, of course, but maybe this means no more racing for him? Why does every season have to end with something so dramatic? 

What Does Eliot Do? 

Not much to get into here, because we already know that Eliot was the one who planted the seed of disappointment in both Cole and Jackie. For Cole, he literally told him he wasn’t good enough for Jackie, and he’s the reason she chose to step away from her good girl personality. For Jackie, he made repeated efforts to make her life in Silver Falls feel like it was below her. Like she didn’t need to be there at all. Though later he says he fell in love with the place too, but it’s time for her to leave anyway. Eliot is clearly in love with Jackie, and probably liked her even before he came to Silver Falls. Of course, they were too young to act on their feelings back then, but he clearly came to town determined to make Jackie his. And with Richard backing him up, there was no way he was going to let go of any opportunity to show Jackie that her rich-girl lifestyle was much better than the small-town one. But at the end of episode 10, Eliot kisses Jackie at the 20s-themed party in the community centre she’s been working on this whole time. He knows exactly what he’s doing at that moment, even if it means becoming a rebound post-Cole. The season ends with Jackie kissing Eliot back, but I think she’s definitely going to regret the moment immediately, especially after finding out what’s happened with Cole while he was trying to come meet her. Some more drama awaits us for sure. 

Why Does Alex Side With Cole? 

On the other hand, it seems only one brother has truly understood what’s happening with Cole, and though Danny tried, Erin kind of reminded him that his brother might not be great with women, which is why he ignored his urge to check on him. He did mention it once, but it wasn’t enough to get him to actually loosen up and tell him the truth. It’s so interesting that it was Alex who saw the truth, maybe because he knew how much his brother liked Jackie. I did say in my review that we see a very mature side of Alex this season, and this is proof of that. He puts his hurt feelings aside and tries to see why his brother would break up with the love of his life. At the end, at the party, Alex is the one who tells Jackie about the annex and how it was all Cole’s doing. It’s then that she sends a message to Cole, which he sees before the race, but I guess we can ignore that part for now. Alex knows that Jackie and Cole are happiest with each other, and he can clearly see that they’re not doing well apart, even if Cole was the one who broke up with Jackie. That’s why he decides to take Cole’s side and listen to him. 

Is Jackie Leaving Silver Falls?

While Nathan is certain he’s leaving Silver Falls to go to Europe with the band, and Danny and Cole have gotten into college, Jackie has been quite all over the place with what she wants to do with her future. Does she still want to go to Princeton, or has she found her calling someplace else? Jackie’s clearly really good with community and event planning. It’s been her thing right from the start of the show, and maybe instead of just being an extracurricular, it’s something she can look to as her job or work. I mean, there’s a lot of time, but Jackie has so much on her mind ever since her parents died that she can’t deal with this pressure anymore, especially with them gone. I know Richard is coming from a good place, trying to not be a disappointment to Jackie’s family, but he can’t get to be a good parent figure by trying to force Jackie into a preemptive box, no? I suppose she still has a year to decide, but I have a feeling she might end up going on that Greek trip just to deal with not having to see Cole in the hospital. Or maybe it’ll be the opposite, and she’ll think this is all her fault, so she’ll finally go back to the hospital after losing her family. Something she couldn’t do when it was George. 

What Can We Expect From Season 4? 

Hannah, George’s sister, showed up this season to meet her boys and take them in again, but it didn’t work out, because she has no housing or employment history, which makes her unreliable for an apartment. I think she might show up again with something solid because, let’s be real, Isaac and Lee need more to do in the show than just get mad at their mom. I think the Hannah plot was too rushed, and there was nothing much gained from it, so I guess I’d like to see her back. Obviously, the most important thing is that Cole has met with a massive accident. Danvers is going to have to pay for it. Mac is likely going to be a more important character next season, trying to get Cole to recuperate and possibly return to the track. I mean, he keeps insisting that he has a bright future in this line of work. I do find myself believing Cole and Jackie are endgame, but if that ends up changing, I’ll be very surprised, not going to lie. I think a big part of season 4 will be people trying to keep Jackie away from Cole, mainly Katherine and George, because obviously they don’t want to see their son hurt. 

Kylie and Alex will likely become a thing, despite how much we all love Dylan. Look, Dylan keeps proving himself as the best guy here, but let’s face it, Kylie’s been obsessed with Alex since forever, so it only made sense that he finally realized how much he likes her when she was already someone else’s. I do think both of them are too nice to mess things up for Dylan, but you can’t hide your feelings, so the truth will eventually come out. Also, Dylan could already see something was off, given Kylie just wouldn’t bring him home to meet her grandmother, which Alex has clearly done, and continues to do when they’re dating. Finally, I expect we might get to see a bit of Jackie’s life in New York, just because she needs a bit of a break from the Walters, and let’s be real, they need one from her too. No, I don’t expect it to be the whole school year or anything, just a vacation if Greece doesn’t happen. I think she needs to be alone and clear her head from all the guys in her life though, including her uncle because the man is seriously getting on our nerves, so maybe some time off will be good for everyone involved.
