The eldest daughter had only been working for three months and reportedly endured 12 hour shifts at a factory in Penang.

A Malaysian mother has expressed concern for her daughter’s friend, who allegedly cried after being pressured to give most of her salary to her family.

Left with RM700 each month

According to the woman’s post, the young worker earns RM2,300 a month and uses most of it to support her parents and younger siblings, leaving only RM700 for herself.

She is the eldest child in her family and had only been working at a factory in Penang for three months.

Mum allegedly asks for another RM1,000

When she returned to her hometown several days ago, her mother allegedly asked her for another RM1,000 to organise a feast.

However, she could not provide the money as she did not have enough left.

Her mother then allegedly borrowed money from a relative while complaining that her daughter was earning a high salary but refused to help the family.

Works 12 hours a day

The original poster said the young woman’s father worked as a fisherman while her mother sold food.

She felt heartbroken knowing that the worker endured 12 hour shifts but was still placed under financial pressure at home.

Several netizens advised young workers against revealing their full salaries to family members, while another claimed that she was being treated like the family’s “bank”.
