Zuckerberg warns of risks from AI concentration in hands of few

WASHINGTON - Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Monday said that universal access to artificial intelligence is key to a positive future, while concentrating the technology in the hands of a small group of people poses a real threat, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

"The best and most realistic path to building a positive AI future is by delivering superintelligence to everyone. But if the power of superintelligence is held by a small number of individuals, businesses, governments, or AI itself, then that will naturally lead to outcomes that are less favourable for everyone else,” Zuckerberg wrote on the Meta website.

The Meta CEO added that no technological solution can simultaneously accommodate the conflicting interests and values of different people, while any "singular superintelligence" would be forced to prioritise some values over others.

He therefore proposed viewing the issue through the prism of a balance of power in which everyone has access to AI.

Zuckerberg also said that AI would become a tool for creating businesses and contribute to a more entrepreneurial economy.

He argued that artificial intelligence is already enabling people to develop their ideas independently without requiring external funding or large teams, predicting that this would eventually lead to job growth rather than job losses.

The Meta CEO also said AI would help advance research across scientific fields, including biology, and lead to new discoveries. - BERNAMA
