125 S’wak clinics need better internet connectivity to boost rural healthcare delivery

PAKAN, Sept 8: A total of 125 health clinics in Sarawak are still facing internet connectivity constraints, highlighting the need for digital interventions to ensure operations and healthcare service delivery, particularly in rural areas, can be carried out more effectively.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, Sarawak Deputy Health director Banges Munga said the department welcomed efforts to expand digital interventions through the MADANINET Programme, especially for clinics located far from urban centres.

He said better internet connectivity was important to support the operational needs of healthcare facilities while strengthening communication and the use of digital facilities.

“Efforts such as this are very helpful because the issues faced can be identified directly on the ground, enabling appropriate measures to be planned,” he said at the MADANINET Programme 2026 at the Nanga Wak Health Clinic and Nanga Kara Health Clinic here today.

Taking the Nanga Wak Health Clinic as an example, Banges said the facility was operated by eight staff members providing healthcare services to about 3,000 residents in the area.

He said the number of residents depending on a clinic demonstrated the importance of good internet connectivity in supporting more efficient healthcare delivery.

In this regard, he hoped more health clinics, particularly those in rural areas, would receive attention through visit and intervention programmes such as MADANINET. — DayakDaily
