Amazon Prime’s Drawn Together Cast And Characters Guide

Adapted from “Culpables” saga fame Argentine-Spanish author Mercedes Ron’s romance thriller novel “Enfrentados: Marfil”, Prime Video’s latest release, “Drawn Together” follows the unlikely romance between a young woman and her bodyguard. Essentially old wine in a new bottle, “Drawn Together” doesn’t shy away from name-dropping Kevin Costner’s “The Bodyguard”, which served as a major inspiration in the making of the narrative. As a character driven feature, “Drawn Together” keeps its lead couple in the narrative focus, although the issue is, there isn’t a strong arc to serve as anchor. While laying the foundation for the sequel, “Drawn Together” ends its story abruptly to carry over the central intrigue to the next instalment, which affects characterization as well.

Spoilers Ahead

Marfil Cortes Played By Ester Exposito

Spanish actor Ester Exposito gained international recognition with her role Carla Caleruega in Netflix’s popular teen drama “Elite,” following which she has acted in several other small screen ventures such as “Veneno,” “Someone Has to Die,” “Bandidos” etc. Some of Ester’s acclaimed silver screen roles include “You Keep the Kids,” “Venus,” “The Talent,” “Lost in the Night” etc. In “Drawn Together”, Ester plays the role of Marfil Cortes, the eldest daughter of influential Spanish businessman/gangster, Alejando Cortes. A compassionate, perceptive, confident and kind person, Ester craves freedom, given she has hardly any control over her own life thanks to her overbearing father. Ester is also naïve to a fault, as she doesn’t have any idea about the true nature of his father’s shady dealings, which is partially the reason behind her mother’s tragic passing. Having shared a strong emotional bond with her late mother, Ester honours her memories by trying to be an accomplished ballerina like her. Ester’s life changes when she is kidnapped, and following her safe return, her father assigns Sebastian as bodyguard to watch over her. As someone who tries to break free from her father’s control, initially Ester perceives Sebastian’s presence in her life as suffocating. The trauma of being abducted doesn’t leave Ester, and to help herself deal with it, she decides to learn self-defence from Sebastian, which shows her self-reliance. At this point, Ester gradually falls for Sebastian, and after prolonged initial hiccups, Sebastian too reciprocates her feelings.

Ester’s fatal flaw is having blind faith on her close ones; she remained oblivious to the fact that her father’s actions time and again jeopardized the safety of their family, or the fact that Sebastian had an ulterior motive to join as her bodyguard. Ultimately, Ester’s trust turns out to be the reason for her undoing, as by the end she gets kidnapped by Marcus Cozel. In the upcoming sequel, Ester’s arc is going to be important, as she will learn the truth of her family’s past.

Sebastian Moore Played By Hugo Diego Garcia

French-Spanish actor/ director Hugo Diego Garcia began his showbiz career by making short films, before starring in small screen ventures such as “Les Sentinelles,” “Death and Other Details” etc. When it comes to the silver screen, Hugo has acted in “The Substance,” John Woo’s “The Killer” remake, etc. Hugo also wrote, acted and co-directed the acclaimed drama “Vache Folle”.

In “Drawn Together,” Hugo plays the role of Sebastian Moore, Ester’s bodyguard, and in reality, is an FBI agent who is investigating her father’s shady underworld dealings. Not much is known about Sebastian’s past, except that he is experienced enough to have become a skilled operative in the federal agency. Sebastian finds himself caught in the conflict of professional responsibility and personal desires, as he falls for Ester but refuses to commit to his feelings by keeping a boundary to remain emotionally distant. While undertaking the job of acting as Ester’s bodyguard, Sebastian didn’t think highly of the privileged girl and had a very generalized mindset, treating her as a mere asset to protect. However, upon learning more about her and knowing Ester as a person, Sebastian can’t help but feel drawn towards her. Aside from professional ethics, the deep seated guilt discourages Sebastian from getting close to her, as he had kidnapped her to turn her into a leverage against Alejando, and didn’t reveal.his true intentions to her despite Ester trusting her blindly. The stoic demeanour, cold, calculative approach and detached attitude is a cover for his fear of having to tell Ester the truth and losing her forever.

Sebastian ultimately shares his honest feelings for Ester, but not long after he has to break her heart as she recognizes him as one of the abductors. Even though there seems to be some kind of reconciliation between the couple before Ester is kidnapped by Cozel, Sebastian’s guilt and regrets only compound further as the realization hits him that keeping her in the dark only aggravated the danger. In the upcoming sequel, Sebastian is going to have a redemptive arc, as he will do whatever it takes to rescue Ester, and make amends for his past deceits.

Miscellaneous Characters

Aside from the leads, the supporting cast of “Drawn Together” did a great job with the roles they were given. Pablo Molinero plays the role of Alejandro Cortes, Ester’s father, and Zoe Bonafonte plays Gabriela, Ester’s young sister. Joaquin Ferreira plays Ray, Sebastian’s friend/ fellow FBI agent, and Eric Masip plays Russian mobster Ivan/ Marcus Cozel, who has a tense rivalry with Alejandro Cortes.
