However, those technical similarities lose utility once you examine their physical dimensions, camera arrays, charging architecture, and approach to software optimisation. The Fold8 arrives considerably lighter and thinner, whereas the Duo leverages a cutting-edge 2nm system-on-a-chip (SoC), a distinct approach to its camera configuration, and Apple’s maiden attempt at adapting the iOS paradigm to a pliable canvas.
Here is how the two premium foldables compare under close scrutiny.
The Samsung Is Much LighterThe iPhone Duo weighs in at a hefty 254g, while the Galaxy Z Fold8 drops down to a remarkably svelte 201g. That represents a 53g delta—roughly the physical weight of a standard chocolate bar. Apple also adds its low-reflection nano-texture finish option to the internal screen and brings its custom always-on display implementation to the outer glass. There is no clear winner on raw specifications alone; the choice comes down to whether you prefer Apple’s narrow, elongated aspect ratio or Samsung’s wider, traditional layout.

Apple Has The Newer ChipThe iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s brand-new A20 Pro SoC, fabricated on TSMC’s cutting-edge 2nm node. The silicon packages a six-core CPU, a seven-core GPU, and an updated dual 16-core Neural Engine. Apple claims the CPU delivers a 20 percent performance uptick over the A19 Pro, while the GPU jumps up to 40 percent faster while maintaining better thermal efficiency. Note that these metrics are relative to Apple’s older architectures—they tell us little about how the chip stacks up directly against Qualcomm’s latest silicon. Samsung pairs this SoC with 12GB of RAM on the 256GB and 512GB storage SKUs, while stepping up to 16GB of RAM if you spring for the top-tier 1TB model. Apple, true to form, does not officially disclose RAM capacities on its public consumer specification sheets, though the Duo can be configured with up to 2TB of internal flash storage.
Ultimately, comparing RAM capacities or nanometer nodes across entirely different operating systems and thermal envelopes offers very little objective insight. The iPhone Duo’s port operates on the USB 3 standard, pushing data transfers up to 10Gbps and outputting video via DisplayPort. It can easily mirror or extend the iOS UI onto an external monitor, but Apple offers no native desktop environment here.
The Fold8 supports the USB 3.2 Gen 1 standard and includes matching DisplayPort video out. Crucially, it fully supports Samsung DeX.
