RM6 mln connectivity boost for Balai Ringin’s agricultural sector

BALAI RINGIN, Sept 19: Balai Ringin’s agricultural sector is set for a connectivity boost, with RM6 million allocated by the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) for 20 agricultural road projects covering 20 villages in Zones B Jalan Simunjan and C Balai Ringin.

Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan said RM300,000 had been allocated for each village, with 16 agricultural road projects completed, two nearing completion, one recently started and another yet to begin.

“With the implementation of these projects, residents in the two zones can increase their agricultural productivity, thereby helping to improve their livelihoods,” he said when officiating the opening ceremony of GKCDA Balai Ringin Completed Project for the upgrading of Kampung Tapang Lebat Road at the Kampung Tapang Lebat Community Hall today.

Meanwhile, Snowdan, who is also Balai Ringin assemblyman said RM3.25 million had been allocated for five projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) and GKCDA in Kampung Tapang Lebat from 2020 to 2027.

The projects included the construction of a new community hall costing RM250,000 in 2020, upgrading of the community hall at RM120,000 in 2022, upgrading of the village road at RM2.5 million, and construction of an agricultural road costing RM300,000 through GKCDA in 2025.

In addition, the construction of a new community hall store costing RM80,000 is scheduled to be implemented next year, according to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).

At the same event, Snowdan also announced an allocation of RM15,000 to the Kampung Tapang Lebat Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and RM5,000 to its women’s bureau.

Also presented were Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) cheques totalling RM585,000 to four churches and Rural Transformation Project (MRP) cheques totalling RM20,000 to two associations.

Earlier, about 150 residents from 30 families in Kampung Tapang Lebat, led by Tuai Rumah Bana Entili, benefited from the upgraded 1.925-kilometre village road, completed on June 9 at a cost of RM2.5 million through GKCDA funding.

Also present were Serian district officer Inting Nyami, GKCDA special administrative officer representative John Ateng Pawang, Balai Ringin sub-district office administrative officer Mohammad Adam Muslim, Serian Resident representative Johnboy Riyah, Serian Public Works Department (JKR) civil engineer Nelson Albert Bantang, representatives of various government departments and Tuai Rumah. — DayakDaily
