For our next TEG Mingle, we’re heading into the heart of Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, October 22 for an evening at Pampas Steakhouse at Old Malaya, a restaurant with a particularly handsome setting. The restaurant is located inside Old Malaya, the restored 1919 heritage building complex located on Jalan Raja Chulan, and if you haven’t visited Old Malaya before, you’re in for a treat.

It’s a fitting setting for a Mingle: historic architecture, a lively city-centre location, good food, and plenty of opportunities to settle in with a drink and meet some new people.

Pampas has built its reputation around steaks and Argentine-inspired dining, with the restaurant emphasizing chilled rather than frozen beef and a menu that extends beyond steak to seafood, lamb, chicken, salads, and other dishes. The setting is part of the appeal, too. Inside, the original colonial character of the building provides the backdrop, while the outdoor bar offers views toward Menara KL.

And then there is Old Malaya itself. Constructed in 1919, the building was originally associated with colonial and Malayan military officers and later became part of Kuala Lumpur’s Eurasian community. After decades of neglect, it was carefully restored and reopened as a distinctive dining destination, retaining much of its original architectural character. Today, several restaurants and bars occupy the heritage complex.

For the Mingle, however, the emphasis is considerably less formal. Come along after work, grab a drink, enjoy the finger food, and spend a couple of hours catching up with familiar faces and meeting some new ones.
