Wakefield Trinity were crowned Super League champions for the first time in the club's history with a 23-10 victory over Warrington Wolves in the Grand Final at Old Trafford.

It is the first time Wakefield have made the Grand Final and they achieved their greatest glory on their first attempt.

They also become the sixth winner of Super League, joining Wigan Warriors, St Helens, Leeds Rhinos, Bradford Bulls and Hull KR.

It rounds out a fairy-tale story for Wakefield who were relegated in 2023, returned to Super League in the 2025 season, and have now written themselves into the history books as champions.

Wakefield held a dominant 19-0 half-time lead thanks to converted tries from Cameron Scott, Isaiah Vagana and Jazz Tevaga, Max Jowitt staying calm under pressure with the boot.

The extra point was then added by Jack Sinfield with just minutes left in the first half.

Early in the second half there was drama as Corey Hall was sent to the sin bin for a high shot on Arron Lindop. Lindop scored with Wakefield a player down, and added a second later on, Ewan Irwin converting the first.

However, a try from Trinity winger Tom Johnstone was enough for them to stay far enough ahead and seal immortality.

Johnstone picked up the Rob Burrow Award for his phenomenal display in both attack and defence.

Wakefield complete the fairy tale with stunning Grand Final win

In front of an electric and sold-out Old Trafford, it was a flawless first 40 from Wakefield Trinity.

They thought they had opened the scoring on the sixth minute when Johnstone went over in the corner. However, on review, it was clear he had been held up then forced into touch.

It took only six minutes longer though for the Yorkshire side to get on the board thanks to a sublime no-look, one-handed flick pass from Lachlan Walmsley which sent Scott walking in and with the Jowitt conversion, they had a 6-0 lead.

While it was end-to-end stuff, metres were coming much more easily to Wakefield with their pack proving too strong. That meant every set ended in pressure.

In the 25th minute, a brilliant Jake Trueman pressure kick saw Johnstone jump highest and find Vagana on his shoulder to walk in. Jowitt added the extras once again.

Just over 10 minutes later, Tyson Smoothy went close and then was followed by Tevaga who threw a dummy and then used his power to barrel over. Jowitt stayed perfect with the boot to extend Wakefield's lead further.

With less than two minutes remaining of the opening half, Jack Sinfield used some big-game nous to send over a drop goal to give Wakefield a more than three-score lead, and left Warrington with a mountain to climb at 19-0 down.

There was drama immediately in the second half when Wakefield's Corey Hall was sent to the sin bin for a high shot on Arron Lindop to give Warrington their opportunity to hit back, and they did.

Irwin threw a lovely dummy and then passed to open up the space and with a player advantage, Lindop had all the room to walk over in front of the Warrington faithful. Irwin converted to bring the scoreline to 19-6.

Warrington thought they had gone in again through Matty Ashton just minutes later, but a forward pass ruled out what would have been a score that brought the game right back in the balance

However, with numerical parity restored, it did not take long for Wakefield to get back on top once again and off the back of huge metres from Caleb Hamlin-Uele, they sent it out to Johnstone who used his step to pull off a sensational finish and with a 23-6 lead and 20 minutes to play, the Wakefield end was bouncing.

Warrington would not give up and with eight minutes left on the clock they kept the last tackle alive; Irwin sent over a looping pass and Lindop was in for his second. However, this time Irwin could not convert and the score was 23-10.

However the clock quickly ran away, Wakefield stayed strong, and immortality was theirs as the full-time hooter went and their name was etched onto the Super League trophy.

Jowitt: A rollercoaster of a year for me - highs are worth the lows

Wakefield's Max Jowitt to Sky Sports:

"A million per cent the highs are worth the lows.

"It didn't feel real that we were playing a Grand Final until we got here today.

"A rollercoaster of a year for me personally after dropping down to the reserves, not finding form, but I got my opportunity at the back end of the year.

"For this to be my last game for Wakefield, I will never forget it."
