KUCHING, Oct 25: After flagging off runners at the Rimbun International Sematan Run 2026, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg joined the action himself, taking part in a 10km cycling activity in the coastal town today.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), about 2,000 participants from Malaysia and overseas took part in the event, which featured 5km, 10km and 21km running categories.
Abang Johari flagged off the 10km category at 6am, following the start of the 21km race at 4am by Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan. Women, Family and Community Development Minister and Santubong MP Dato Sri Nancy Shukri flagged off the 5km category at 6.30am.
Afterwards, the Premier cycled 10km around Sematan before attending the prize presentation for the national men’s and women’s 21km categories and the grand lucky draw, where the top prize was a Proton e.MAS 5.
Earlier, participants and guests were entertained by a performance from Denyut Nadi Borneo of SMK Lundu before gathering for breakfast.
The programme also included a mock-cheque presentation by Rimbun Prima Sdn Bhd managing director Bouteflika Ahmad to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and Lundu Hospital’s Dialysis Department, witnessed by Abang Johari.
The contributions were intended to support turtle conservation and protection efforts in Sarawak, as well as patients requiring ongoing dialysis treatment.
Organised to promote an active and healthy lifestyle, the event brought together local and international participants through sport. — DayakDaily
