Lupin Season 4 Episode 6 Recap: How Does Assane Outsmart Charmerace?

In the sixth episode of Netflix’s “Lupin,” Assane finds himself in a very dark room, surrounded by henchmen. As he tries to gradually look up, Assane slowly remembers getting subdued by masked men while trying to help Adele get away. It turns out that Assane has been kidnapped by none other than one of his oldest foes, Charmerace, who is one of the most influential men in France. Charmerace is also one of the closest members of The Guardians, who is tasked with the protection of the King’s Crown, the gemstones, and the King’s Treasure. Although Charmerace’s men try to get an answer out of Assane, the gentleman thief remains unfazed, despite the pain he is in. When Charmerace realizes that there’s no other way, he injects Assane with the truth serum. Meanwhile, Adele accidentally meets Raoul at the Lupin lair while Ben is away. After Ben comes back, Adele shows him a picture of the crown, while Raoul remains intrigued at their secretive behavior.

How Does Raoul Learn About Wrong Choices The Hard Way?

There are some things in life that push you towards the point of no return and Raoul learns about it the hard way. After the car showroom robbery, Raoul stopped hanging out with Esteban & Co. Despite pocketing a huge amount of cash from the successful heist, Raoul had prevented himself from going out and playing with his life. While he works for Ben in his shop, Esteban and his friends seem to pay him a friendly visit, asking for his help in an upcoming heist. Although this seems very friendly for Raoul since he knows everyone, things take a turn for the worse because Esteban is not there to get turned down. He and his friends start vandalizing Ben’s store after they demand Raoul to return his cut from the first heist. Although Raoul fights back and fends Esteban & Co. away, he learns how important it is to stay away from strangers. It also teaches Raoul to not put his trust on his own emotions and rely on logic while dealing with his own life. 

What Made Assane Be So Sure That Juliette Was Alive?

Before getting kidnapped by Charmerace’s trusted henchmen, Assane saw how those men broke into Juliette’s library and found the three gems quite easily. Although it happened after Assane and Adele witnessed Juliette’s garage go up in flames, the henchmen seemed to be sure of the exact location where the gems were hidden. So far, only Assane, Juliette and Adele knew the exact location of the gemstones. This left Assane confused about Juliette’s death because she must have told those people about the gemstones beforehand. He also remembered that although Juliette’s garage was burning, he could not notice her body in the exploded car from afar. After Assane frees himself, he searches through the castle and gets to Juliette, because he always knew that she had been alive all along. Charmerace’s henchmen hid in the garage when she arrived there to park; after kidnapping her, one of them set off a bomb that sent the car up in flames, making it seem like she was dead.

Why Does Assane Hold A Grudge For Charmerace?

Assane and Charmerace go way back, right from the days that were in college. When Assane was just a teenager, he tried stealing the King’s Treasure right from Charmerace’s office when he visited the place alongside Ben. It was the same night when Assane was intimate with Juliette and for some reason, Charmerace was aware of Diop trespassing the restricted areas of his family mansion. While it’s true that Charmerace had every right to be angry at Assane, it still does not validate how badly he treated him upon finding out. Assane was shoved around, and pulled deep into the forest where Charmerace and his friends kept embarrassing him. At some point or the other, Charmerace’s covert racism was quite visible because he could not accept a black Senegalese being there in his castle. He took a paintball gun and shot at Assane’s chest while threatening to kill him. This experience never left Assane’s mind and as days went by, he kept a grudge for Charmerace in his heart. 

How Does Assane Outsmart Charmerace?

Although Charmerace ensures to tie Assane down, he still finds Juliette. He uses a guard’s phone to call Adele and asks her to arrive with the real crown because Charmerace might prefer that in exchange for Assane. In the meantime, Assane instructs Ben to arrive outside Charmerace’s castle with a hologram device of the crown (Adele had already shown an image of it to him). For safety, Assane also instructs Adele to arrive geared up with a bulletproof material just in case Charmerace decides to test his aim. He does not include Juliette in any plan because he knows that Charmerace will never kill her since she is a descendant of the Pellegrinis. As expected, Charmerace shoots at Adele and Assane; while he thinks that both are dead, the two actually swim away and meet at a secret location in the forest. By the time Juliette is let go of the castle, Ben had already snuck inside the room and installed the hologram projector. Within one afternoon, Assane has turned the tides in favor of him; he now has the crown and everyone has escaped without any sort of injuries.

Is Assane Having The Worst Family Reunion?

When Assane finally puts all the gemstones on the crown, Adele and Juliette realize that they will have to put it on the Chapel while the Sun is still up. Once they put the crown on the table, sunlight falls on it and goes right through the gems, Assane finds a projected treasure map upon rotating the crown. Assane grows happier upon standing there with his love, Juliette and her daughter, Adele. While the three of them share a warm embrace, they fail to notice that Raoul has been watching them all along. He has followed Assane’s car to the Chapel and secretly climbed on the dome to take note of their activities. When Raoul witnesses Assane’s little family reunion, he gets heartbroken at the sight of it because his father has been hiding everything from him all along. For the first time ever, Raoul feels absolutely worthless and ironically, Assane is unable to know anything about it.
