Everyone needs a break from work when they’re unwell, but one Malaysian woman has expressed her frustration over a colleague who frequently takes medical leave (MC), leaving others to handle the extra workload.
In a Threads post, the woman shared that her colleague had been diagnosed with a mental health condition, which she said was caused by stress involving their former boss.
While she initially sympathised with her colleague’s situation, she admitted that her patience was slowly running out.
Colleague continues taking MC even after boss resignedAccording to the woman, her colleague previously took frequent MCs because she did not want to see their former boss at the office.
She explained that seeing the boss would allegedly trigger her colleague’s stress.
However, even after the boss resigned, the colleague reportedly continued taking MCs regularly.
The woman also claimed that her colleague would turn down certain work assignments, saying they triggered her stress.
She added that she noticed her colleague seemed to fall sick almost every month.
Other colleagues have to limit their leaveThe woman explained that her colleague’s frequent absences had started affecting the rest of the team.
According to her, other employees had to limit their own leave to ensure there were enough people to complete their reports.
Although she understood that her colleague was struggling with her health, she admitted that the situation had become increasingly frustrating.
“I understood that she was sick, and I felt sorry for her at first. But over time, I started feeling that she was being selfish,” she wrote.
She also questioned why her colleague continued working at the company if the environment was affecting her mental health.
“If you feel that the company triggers your mental health issues, why not leave for good? Do something you enjoy instead,” she added.
In another comment, the woman admitted that the situation was now causing her stress as well.
She said she had started to resent what she perceived as her colleague’s selfish behaviour.
Netizen advises her not to stress over the situationResponding to the post, one netizen advised the woman not to let the situation affect her own mental health.
The commenter pointed out that getting stressed over another person’s workload would not change the fact that the work still needed to be completed.
Instead, they encouraged her to focus on finishing her tasks and avoid overthinking the situation.
The netizen also reminded her that constantly stressing over work could eventually affect her own health.
