Lupin Season 4 Episode 8 Recap And Ending Explained

In the final episode of the fourth season of “Lupin,” Charmerace arrives at the castle to have a meeting with the rest of The Guardians. Since they all know that Assane is targeting the King’s Treasure, none of them wants to get defeated in the gentleman thief’s hands. Charmerace also initiates the strongest of security protocols that are available in the safe room because he does not underestimate Assane’s skills at all. While his enemies are gearing up to stop his heist, Assane finds himself in a difficult situation. Raoul is finally revealing the misdeeds he has involved himself in, over the course of time, making Claire anxious about his future. It also takes Assane by surprise when he learns that it was Raoul who pushed Sofia from the museum balcony on the night of Adele’s heist.

Why Does Assane Want To Steal When Raoul Is Already In Danger?

Assane knows that Raoul has put himself in a problematic position because being on the police radar is the last thing that someone can ask for. Even if Assane uses every bit of influence he has, he will not be able to stop Guedira; the cop is extremely pissed about Raoul pushing Sofia to death and he is not going to stop until he is able to put him behind bars. Even if Assane convinces Guedira, Commissioner Korvin, who’s a dragon of the Guardians, will not let Raoul go. Korvin is most likely going to use Raoul to get to Assane. However, Assane knows that Charmerace and the Guardians have so much power over the commoners because of their social stature, which mainly comes from guarding the King’s Treasures. The riches left by Louis XVI provides these Guardians a higher pedestal which allows them to make and break laws, as much as they want. If he steals the treasure, Assane can stop the Guardians from exercising their powers.

What Makes Guedira Bug Korvin’s Room?

Guedira is one of those few people who are honest in their jobs and he has no intention to bow down to the Guardians. The last thing Guedira wants is to be dominated by people who think that they themselves are above all rules. Just because he used to trust Korvin a lot, he gets shocked to learn that it was she who works for The Guardians. Guedira incidentally overhears Korvin plotting with one of the Guardians about getting rid of Adele and Assane, as soon as possible. This forces Guedira to do the unthinkable and bug Korvin’s room, which makes it possible for him to hear every conversation that happens within the Commissioner’s office. Although Sofia tries to talk him out of it, she stops upon understanding that a corrupt Commissioner like Korvin needs to be removed from her office.

What Makes Ben And Assane Force The Varennes Protocol?

For years, Charmerace has successfully guarded the King’s treasures from getting out of France. If the majority of The Guardians decide that the riches are no longer safe in the catacombs, they will be forced to launch a contingency program, known as The Varennes Protocol. Varennes is a security agency who offers armored and safe transports across different locations. If this protocol is initiated then the treasures are exposed to the outside and it makes it easier for Assane to steal them. Since the King’s Treasure room is located in the basement, the Guardians are most likely to initiate the protocol in case there’s a flood. That’s why Ben and Assane malfunctioned the flood gates of the dams, thus raising the water level of the Seine river by a considerable amount. Once that happens, the Guardians panic and lose faith on Charmerace, who was already under pressure ever since he lost the crown from his office. 

How Does Assane & Co. Fool The Guardians?

Korvin has always been a major piece of the puzzle that could make or break the Guardians in the first place. She is one of those figures upon whom the Guardians always depend for their legal troubles and that’s why Assane takes away the most valuable pawn. He forges a face mask that looks like Korvin and makes Juliette wear it. Juliette takes Korvin’s place by intoxicating her while Assane distracts the entire police force by running around the city on a horse. Before the armored truck leaves the castle enclosure, Charmerace lets Juliette sit in the front, thinking that it is Korvin. Once the truck moves to a designated avenue, Adele attaches her drone over it to make it disappear from Charmerace’s radar. By the time Charmerace discovers everything and Korvin comes back to her senses, Juliette has moved the truck driver away and drove the treasure right into a secret tunnel where the rest of her friends’ crew are.

Why Does Raoul Betray Assane?

After Adele attaches her drone on top of the truck, she decides to leave the apartment with Raoul, who seemed to be helping her all along. However, Adele gets kidnapped by a group of masked thugs and it turns out that these are all Hubert’s henchmen. Raoul has been working with Pellegrini all along and he has plotted this kidnapping to run away with the King’s treasures. When Raoul discovered about the little family reunion inside the Chapel, he could not control his anger and decided to contact Hubert to know more about the riches. He also promised to bail out Hubert; the day Raoul went to the airport for Dakar and came back, he had flown to Kuala Lumpur to give Hubert the bail money. Raoul was frustrated to see Assane trust everyone with this heist but him, and it was not at all an easy feeling for him to shake off. 

Is This The End Of Assane Diop?

Assane knows that he has never been the best father. Besides that, he has never come close to even being a good parent. He is aware of all the mistakes he has made in the past. When Assane discovers that Raoul has joined hands with Hubert, he feels heartbroken and tries to talk to him as he knows how dangerous they are. But Raoul leaves Assane no choice because even though he wants to live a life with his father, he does not want Adele to be a part of it. Since Assane wants both of his children, he refuses to walk away from Adele, leaving Raoul no choice but to depart with Hubert. Meanwhile, the cops arrive with Juliette and the others; as Sofia shoots at Raoul to stop him, Assane jumps in front of the bullet, taking the hit on behalf of his son. Assane does not want to see Raoul die even if he has betrayed him. In the end, as you can see Assane lying with a visible bullet wound on his chest, he is most likely going to pull through. Even if Assane gets away with his health complications, his legal troubles are about to start. With Raoul gone with Hubert, Assane and Adele will be facing the full wrath of Charmerace and The Guardians.
