MIRI, Oct 28: A special allocation of RM10 million has been approved to repair flood-damaged roads in Miri, particularly in Senadin, Permyjaya and Riam.
According to a TVS report, caretaker Minister for Transportation Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the allocation was secured following a special appeal to the Sarawak Government after floods earlier this year damaged several major roads in the affected areas.
“The RM10 million allocation is for the rehabilitation of roads affected by floods. The tender was called and closed on Oct 13. I hope work can begin next month,” he told reporters during a site visit to Jalan Indah 3, Permyjaya, here today.
Lee said repairs would be carried out in stages, prioritising roads with serious damage, while resurfacing works on other roads would continue as needed.
An additional special allocation of RM3 million has also been approved to improve drainage systems in flood-prone areas, particularly in Senadin.
Lee said Miri city council (MBM) would work with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) to identify flood-prone areas and determine which existing drainage systems required upgrading.
“MBM and DID will jointly assess areas requiring drainage improvements and identify appropriate measures to address flooding,” he said.
Meanwhile, residents of Desa Indah, Permyjaya, will benefit from two new recreational parks under a RM400,000 allocation to provide more spaces for leisure and community activities.
Lee said the parks would be built at Lorong Indah 2A and Lorong Indah 3B, serving a residential area with about 3,104 houses.
The project includes a 380-metre-long, 2.4-metre-wide jogging track, three entrances and six reinforced concrete benches. –DayakDaily
