KUCHING, Oct 30: Community leaders from the Pelagus Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) constituency have expressed support for the renomination of incumbent Wilson Nyabong Ijang as the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for the 13th Sarawak Election.
In a statement, Tuai Rumah Roy William Ubu, spokesperson for the area’s community leaders, said this will ensure continuity in the area’s development and that the needs of residents in rural and interior areas continue to receive attention.
“Throughout his tenure as an elected representative, we have witnessed various development efforts and initiatives undertaken, particularly in improving basic infrastructure, connectivity, and the well-being of rural communities. We greatly appreciate his commitment to listening to and addressing grassroots needs.
“We believe continuity in leadership and development policies is particularly important for rural and interior areas such as Pelagus, which still require sustained attention and the continued implementation of development projects.
“Planned and ongoing projects must be carried forward to ensure that their full benefits reach the community,” said Roy, who is also Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Pelagus Youth deputy chief.
At the same time, he emphasised the importance of maintaining cooperation, mutual understanding, and consensus among all elected representatives in Kapit Division.
He explained that close cooperation between political leaders at the parliamentary and State levels is essential to ensure the development agenda throughout Kapit Division is implemented in an organised, comprehensive, and effective manner.
“We believe that the interests of the people must always remain the top priority. Therefore, the spirit of consensus among elected representatives, government agencies, community leaders, and all segments of society must continue to be strengthened to ensure that planned development initiatives are realised,” he said.
In the 12th Sarawak Election held in 2021, Nyabong secured 2,843 votes, or 56.28 per cent, to retain the Pelagus seat.
He beat Kristoffer Nyuak Bajok of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (1,794 votes, 35.51 per cent); Solomon Kumbong of the Democratic Action Party (250 votes, 4.94 per cent); Nyambong Sibat of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (88 votes, 1.74 per cent); and Moses Ripai of Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (76 votes, 1.5 per cent). — DayakDaily
